Perceptive Automata is using our understanding of human behavior combined with computer vision and machine learning to help make autonomous vehicles (AV) safer for others on (or near) the road.

The Core Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us achieve our bold vision and bring our core technology to market. As a member of this team, you’ll work together with our domain experts to develop and integrate our Deep Learning inference with the software stacks of next-generation autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles from the world's top manufacturers. Additionally, you’ll make critical contributions to our internal software tools for data collection and processing as we continue to streamline and scale our operations to reach more customers and improve our technology.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Develop research-driven features for our core State of Mind AI (SOMAI) software product
  • Integrate SOMAI with customer systems, which include AV development fleets from top industry players
  • Contribute to the selection, installation, calibration and maintenance of the various sensors and other hardware used on our data collection vehicles, including cameras, LIDARs, RADARs, Onboard Data (OBD) systems, and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs).
  • Develop, implement, and test the software that will collect and process the raw data from these sensors into a form that can be integrated with other data sources in our environment.
  • Build efficient, robust and secure infrastructure enabling responsive, transparent and collaborative product development and testing.

The Core Engineering team provides a great opportunity to work across disciplines with domain experts here at PA; we have a great deal of flexibility to tailor the specific responsibilities of the role to the skills and interests of the applicant.

Strongly Preferred Skills & Background:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Robotics or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5+ years industry experience building software for commercial or research purposes
  • Strong Python and C++ programming skills
  • Comfortable with the installation, configuration, and modification of computer hardware
  • Strong communication skills -- both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, with excellent general problem-solving capabilities

Also Helpful:

  • Experience with AV sensors and associated softwares, including:
    - Variety of cameras, LIDAR, IMUs
    - Calibration of cameras and/or depth sensors
    - Programmatic interfacing with cameras & sensors
    - Efficient storage and collection of large data files
  • Experience with various perception topics, such as:
    - Sensor fusion of cameras and/or depth sensors
    - Visual Odometry, SfM, SLAM, and extensions with other sensors
    - Computational photography
  • Experience developing a commercial AV stack
  • Comfortable with simple electrical / mechanical assembly tasks (e.g. sensor mounting)
  • Familiarity with CNNs and other machine learning topics
  • Experience with real-time software
