Senior Network Engineer

As CarGurus continues its transition from on-prem to cloud and from a legacy provisioning method to a truly Infrastructure as services (IaaS) setup, we are looking at adding a strong networking professional to our team. They will be responsible for providing their networking expertise across our datacenter, cloud, and corporate networks.
What you’ll do:
- Provide ongoing support to the datacenter, cloud, and corporate network environments.
- Move towards 100% infrastructure as code using software and automation to repeatably instantiate and perform all lifecycle operations. (Terraform, Chef, Git, Ansible, Concourse, Bazel, etc.)
- Implement innovative technologies that provide high-quality service and tackle real-world problems.
- Continuously improve the security posture of our network deployments across cloud and on-premises deployments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues spanning every layer of the OSI model.
- Mentor and share knowledge with less experienced members of the team.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
Who you are:
- Curious with a strong desire to innovate and learn new things.
- Ability to take on large projects, ask questions, self-direct, and work independently.
- Ability to work through ambiguity to discover the true driving factors and be able to make informed design decisions.
- Experienced with various networking and load balancing hardware platforms, our infrastructure runs on Juniper, F5, HAProxy and Aruba.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud networking technologies including Direct Connect ALB/ELB, VPC, VGW, VPCE, NACLs/SGs and Transit Gateway.
- Thoroughly familiar with dynamic routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Ability to automate solutions using technologies like terraform, ansible, and chef.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes network principles both on-prem and in the cloud.
- (Good to have) Experience and knowledge of service mesh implementations using Istio, Gloo, etc.
- Deep understanding of low-level network foundations (OSI 1-4).
- Very strong troubleshooting skills.
- Very comfortable with VPNs (IPSEC and SSL) and NAT.
- Good understanding of wireless technology (N / AC) and their fundamentals and common external factors.
- Strong communication skills
