Senior ML Engineering Manager - NLP
Job Description:
The Senior Machine Learning Engineering Manager will lead and grow the ML engineering team within NLP organization to build and support novel intelligence feature with NLP data scientists and product managers. This role will be instrumental in helping to build ML-powered NLP and AI functionality at Workhuman, which is strategic and critical to realizing the vision of promoting diversity, equality, inclusivity, and belonging in workplace by analyzing workplace communication data.
The Senior Manager will have chance working with cutting-edge NLP technologies and ML architectures to drive the innovative product development across a wide range of NLP applications including language inclusivity tool, emotion detection, topic and event trend modeling, information extraction and retrieval, text summarization, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Coach, mentor, and support the team through ML product development and collaboration with product managers, engineering and architect team.
- Provide support and guidance in the development effort for building the ML computing infrastructure and pipeline
- Guide the team to propose and implement the best practices for scaling ML features across all phases of feature lifecycle, from fast iterative experimentation to prototype, productization and support.
- Provide direction and for project investments, prioritization, and engineering resources allocation, as well as coordinate with stakeholders
- Help drive engineering-wide initiatives with other engineering leaders.
- Act as an strong advocate and promoter for the team
- Contribute to and influence the ML infrastructure roadmap based on the feedback from internal customers
- Provide technical expertise to win respect from ML engineers and NLP experts and are willing to dive into the fray to help drive resolution
- Hire, develop and retain exceptional ML engineering talent.
Requirements:
- Has a strong track record of building and managing productive engineering teams.
- Has hands-on experience as a senior engineer.
- Has experience translating a high-level strategy and roadmap into an execution plan.
- Can effectively set and communicate priorities for themselves and their team.
- Can successfully coordinate, empower, and direct multiple stakeholders, details, and timelines toward a specific goal.
- Thrives managing through the roadmap ambiguity and unique problem-solving associated with new product ideas-by balancing ownership of mission-critical systems and building features around a loosely defined roadmap.
- Stays up-to-date with the quickly evolving field of natural language processing (NLP), tracking industry trends while focusing on building production systems.
- Brings a solid understanding of ML development lifecycle and tools, including some domain experience with ML, deep learning, or NLP.
- Holds a master's degree in computer science, engineering, or math.
