We're looking for a forward-thinking individual to join a team of experienced Mechanical Engineers. This person should enjoy solving problems and use their skills to really “own” a portion of our robotic system. As a core member of this small engineering team your work will have a real impact and directly contribute to the commercial success of our product while adhering to Vicarious Surgical’s design controls.


Overall, you'll be tasked with solving problems that require engineering mastery as well as creativity. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to play with really cool robots!

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of the development of a novel medical device, including: requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, manufacturing, assembly, integration testing and verification/validation testing
  • Understand, analyze, and suggest new design improvements to existing technology
  • Develop, conduct, and report on tests to validate your design
  • Work with vendors to produce parts
  • Develop verification and validation protocols
  • Be a helpful, collaborative team member

Skills Needed

  • Proficient with CAD, Solidworks preferred
  • Comfort with and understanding of the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical system
  • Experienced in design for manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Experience advancing a prototype through V&V builds, to a product ready for receiving FDA clearance and market release. 
  • Able to work effectively in and be a resource for a multi-disciplinary team internally to the company as well as with third-party vendors
  • Able to work independently and autonomously when necessary
  • Able to effectively communicate ideas and take constructive criticism
  • Confidence founded on sound engineering principles 

About You 

  • Minimum of 4 years’ medical device experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proven track record of excellence in mechanical design and analysis
  • Previous direct work with vendors and manufacturers
  • Experience designing and performing verification/validation tests
  • Experience working on a product through commercialization is a plus
