As the Senior UI Developer, you will create front-end and middle-tier code for multiple online product offerings of the NEJM Group. You are effective working closely with other developers, visual designers, and external partners to create rich, usable Internet applications that adhere to Web standards and responsive design. You also enjoy playing a leadership role in designing and developing solutions to meet business needs.

The Massachusetts Medical Society is the statewide professional association for physicians and medical students. We are dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts. We offer online CME courses and live events that award continuing medical education credits. The Society, under the auspices of NEJM Group, publishes the New England Journal of Medicine, a leading global medical journal and web site, and NEJM Journal Watch alerts and publications covering 12 specialties.

Responsibilities: 

  • Writes code using a variety of programming languages and platforms such as Angular 4/6, NodeJS, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Creates high-quality customer-centric user experiences (Responsive) from design deliverables and functional specifications.
  • Researches technologies and best practices for UI implementation and data visualization in new and existing applications and follows and promotes best practices and current Web standards.
  • Draws on excellent cross-browser and cross platform testing skills to assist with user testing efforts.
  • Proactively offers and applies/develops suggestions and solutions to online application problems and follows up to ensure successful resolution of issues.
  • Serves as a bridge between application developers and Web designers and with both internal and external partners.
  • Acts as a resource and mentor to other developers who are doing UI coding and performs reviews of other developers’ UI code as needed.
  • Conducts thorough testing of user interfaces in multiple platforms to ensure all designs render correctly and systems function properly, incorporating feedback from end users as well as members of the design team.
  • Presents and defends design implementations and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders.
  • Analyzes data from user research and works iteratively as part of an Agile or product team until standards are satisfied.

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and minimum of 5 years of experience in user interface design and/or development with HTML, JavaScript frameworks, and CSS preprocessors like SASS and LESS.
  • Experience with Responsive / Adaptive Web Design is required, as is strong knowledge of UI frameworks.
  • Skill with the .NET framework (including C#), Adobe Marketing tools (Target, DTM, Launch, Analytics), responsive email HTML, and Advertising tools like Adtech or Google Ads are a huge plus. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely and collaboratively with teams to create best-of-breed site interfaces are necessary.
  • Needs to be flexible and adaptive to the technical changes required to meet growing business needs.
  • Ability to present designs and sell solutions to various stakeholders.
  • Must have a creative approach to problem solving and resourceful and tenacious in finding solutions.
  • Experience successfully working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
