Engineers at EverTrue work together to develop leading web and mobile platforms that support fundraising initiatives for over 300 educational institutions. We integrate with APIs including Facebook, LinkedIn, Zillow, EventBrite, and Emma, as well as process millions of institutional records. The Role:

EverTrue is looking to add an experienced senior engineer to our product & engineering team. This team currently owns projects in Java tech stacks. You will closely work with our team of experienced front-end and back-end engineers and product managers to build innovative products and write great code.

What you’ll do

• Be a leading voice on how our microservices should be designed and scaled to handle billions of data points
• Collaborate with the team to build high-quality, scalable Java APIs that follow best practices
• Be challenged to write readable code in a performance critical environment
• Design, scale and improve our microservices infrastructure to make it simple and efficient to maintain
• Own large projects and work with engineers and product managers to help plan, prioritize and develop work
• Promote quality through regular code reviews and by writing tests to validate work and prevent regression
• Be a welcomed contributor to projects that interest you, even if you don’t own them
• Be expected to evaluate and rationalize when to take a short term vs. long term approach to engineering solutions
• Help identify and overcome technical or product problems.

Technologies we use

• Java w/ Dropwizard, Ruby w/ Rails & Rack
• GraphQL, ElasticSearch, Spark, Storm, MySQL, Kafka, Memcached, Redis and Cassandra
• Amazon Web Services, automated by Chef and CloudFormation. This includes services like ECS, RedShift, EMR, CodeBuild, S3, and more.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software development or equivalent experience
• Have in-depth experience with Java and MySQL
• Deeply understand modern API design patterns and best practices
• Experience with modeling denormalized and normalized data
• Have knowledge of Java 8 features and frameworks like Dropwizard or Spring
• Be familiar with the concepts for ElasticSearch, Redis, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka and Storm
• Be familiar with AWS or similar cloud services
• Have a positive and respectful attitude with the desire to work in a rapid-growth, entrepreneurial environment

Bonus Qualifications: 

• Experience with Spark, Cassandra, Kafka, Mesos and Redis.
• Experience with Ruby and Rails
• Contributions to open-source libraries or building your own side projects
