Outcomes

  • Become familiar with focused sourcing collections (plant microbiomes)
    • Review data being collected by partners and propose ideas on how best to use that data
    • Review current community data and propose new datasets
  • Develop testable hypotheses and experimental plans
    • Propose testable hypotheses based on focused sourcing microbiome data and analyses
    • Create a vision for field-testing of microbial impacts on crops
  • Understand and develop individual goals in the context of the team’s annual goals
  • Evaluate processes used for data analysis
    • Propose improvements to existing processes and new processes as needed
  • Develop working relationships with the following teams: Data Science, Microbial Sourcing and Evaluation, Innovation, Research & Scientific Insights, Plant Physiological Analysis and Field Sciences
  • Help coordinate with Field Sciences to plan 2019 field experiments

 Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in microbiology or related field, (with emphasis on plant/microbiome or host/microbiome interactions) with 2-3 years of professional experience
  • Deep knowledge of microbial function, molecular ecology and microbe-microbe interactions in the context of microbiomes and symbiosis
  • Extensive experience in microbiome/host interactions
  • Expertise in current bioinformatics tools for analyzing large ecological datasets
  • Comparative genomics and population genetics experience a plus
  • Experience mentoring junior lab staff
  • Strong publication record
  • Diverse range of experience including computational biology, wet lab experience, and field experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with statistical analysis software and programming languages (i.e. Python, R)

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
