The primary objective of the Research Associate, Microbial Sourcing and Evaluation will be to aid in the identification and detection of microbial strains for use in the discovery pipeline using molecular diagnostics. The characterized strains will continue to enrich the pipeline and result in commercial products.

Outcomes:

  • Be able to perform DNA extraction from a variety of samples (e.g. plant tissue, bacterial and fungal cultures)
  • Accurately track DNA extractions and efficient storage of DNA in freezer
  • Be able to coordinate the submission of samples to CROs in a timely fashion
  • Perform cross-functional tasks including PCR and gel electrophoresis in support of all DNA core functions
  • Execute library prep for Next Generation Sequencing with great attention to details
  • Run effective detection of microbial strains in planta using qPCR

  • Organized, methodical, and attention to detail required
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with aggressive timelines and deliverables, sometimes under constrained conditions
  • Demonstrate a team-oriented style and strong work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree with 2-3 years’ experience in biology, microbiology or other life sciences required
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques required, particularly single and multi-channel pipetting, reagent preparation, DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis
  • Basic data management skills required
  • Expertise in use and programming of automation preferred

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
