Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully, and at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. We are presently seeking an experienced Materials Lead.

The Materials Lead will be responsible for:

  • Supervising research, development, and qualification of material formulations, debinding processes, and sintering processes across alloy compositions and product lines.
  • Managing requirements, scope, and schedules for material development.
  • Collaborating with hardware and process engineering to develop robust printing processes for metallic components.
  • Collaborating to define requirements for 3D printing processes and materials.
  • Collaborating to define requirements for materials processing hardware.
  • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional teams on schedules and product development status
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to define, write, and execute designed experiments

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in materials science, metallurgical engineering or related field
  • Prior experience supervising materials research in both early and late stages of product development.
  • Deep experience in metals processing or similar industry
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a deep understanding of the end user needs quickly, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • High temperature metal processing
  • Powder materials processing

  • Quality engineering
  • Intellectual property development
  • Excellent written and oral communication
