We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our Internal Manufacturing Engineering team that is responsible for delivering our next generation materials for our 3D printers. You will be expected to have a firm grasp of every element of the manufacturing test process including, tooling/fixture design, firmware test development, data acquisition / analysis, test verification/validation, implementation and deployment. 

To thrive at Markforged, you must be able to work well in multi-disciplinary teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers. The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for sustaining product quality, process design, production efficiency, supplier management, driving product cost reduction and product consistency.

What will you own?
  • Serve as the engineering process owner for existing and new Markforged materials in production facility 
  • Design and build out process to validate material specifications, critical-to-quality (CTQ) functional requirements, and full system performance
  • Drive key improving projects that deliver KPI performance breakthroughs (throughput, yields, costs, uptime, performance)
  • Implement automation and in-line tests processes for existing and mission critical NPI projects
  • Conduction validation and implement activities related to new/upgraded equipment, tooling/fixturing, or production processes
  • Outline and transition maintenance requirements to Reliability team to ensure work cell continuity 
  • Model industry best practices and set workmanship standards to junior engineers in the plant
  • Oversee production development activities from alpha/beta runs, initial pilot launch, and into production scale up and sustaining phase
  • Managing initiatives across internal teams and outside vendors
  • Generate production level documentation (WIs / SOPs / ECOs) to a high technical standard

What you have:

  • B.S. in mechanical, industrial, or process engineering (M.S. preferred)
  • 5+ years in relevant work experience in a continuous manufacturing environment
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems, industrial automation equipment, closed loop control/inspection equipment, high-precision laser technology, hard tooling fabrication
  • Production experience working with composite materials (such as fiberglass or carbon fiber) is considered a plus
  • Strong grasp of mechanical drawings, GD&T, and detailed schematics
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling, solidworks/EPDM experience
  • Knowledge of LEAN / Six Sigma methodologies (green/black belt preferred)
  • Familiarity with coding languages (Python), GUIs, and embedded systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of physics/material fundamentals.
  • The ability to learn new innovative technologies quickly.
  • Well versed in statistical process control, control plan, process automation, human factors, FMEA, and RCA methodologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - can convey complex technical topics in simple terms across internal departments
  • Extremely motivated and organized individual who can be self-directed in both team-based and individual settings
  • Willingness to travel up to 5-10% both domestically and internationally
  • Passion for additive manufacturing, and experience with 3D printers
  • A strong portfolio of past work and personal projects.
