Hardware Engineer
American Robotics is seeking a Hardware Engineer to support the rapid deployment and continuous operation of our unique, industrial-grade fully automated drone system and its sub-systems. We are looking for a dynamic, highly effective engineer to join our engineering team to assist in the integration of sub-systems and work with our field operations team to effectively deploy, operate, and improve our technology. In this position, you will work alongside both the engineering and operations teams to debug and develop solutions to various sub-systems in our aerial robotics systems. This position is based in our Marlborough, MA and Waltham, MA offices.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Become an expert in our unique, automated drone system
  • Lead the effort on triage and root cause analysis of issues on fielded units
  • Inspect, Maintain, and Repair of systems and sub-systems
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate new and prototype sub-systems into the overall system
  • Build out the suite of documentation for field debug and general operation of the system
  • Develop plans and strategy to roll hardware and software updates to fielded units


Minimum Requirements:

  • BS, or higher level degree in Mechanical, Systems Engineering or related field
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent at working with both technical and non-technical field operators
  • Excellent at developing tests to repeat and troubleshoot off-nominal conditions
  • Demonstrable ability to debug an issue from observable symptom down to the root cause
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, robotics, and industrial automation
  • Ability to create clear and concise technical drawings and documentation
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of hardware and software engineers
  • Excellent debug and problem solving abilities
  • Experience and ability to work in a field environment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours to support field operations including weekend support when necessary


Desirable Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of post-educational experience working on complex electro-mechanical systems such as industrial, aerospace, or robotics products
  • Experience designing and building UAVs, aircraft or other weight-constrained technologies
  • Field and/or customer support experience
  • Experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical issues that arise during operations
  • Experience with small to medium-lot manufacturing
  • Experience with drones and/or similar autonomous robotics
  • Experience integrating mechanical, electrical and software components and sub-systems
  • You are a highly organized and motivated, self-starting individual
