EdX is looking for an Engineering Team Lead to join our Learner team and help us change the face of education. You will lead an engineering team to scale and enhance the tools and systems needed to enable edX’s ~13 million learners. Your work will be used in production by premier educational institutions and learners from all over the world.

You’ll use modern tooling like Django, React, and github to build software that is scalable, reliable, and easy to use. Your projects will be diverse and impactful both internally and for our Learners.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on leadership to a small team of software engineers to efficiently develop, deploy, and support scalable software products. This is a leadership role, but you’ll also write code!
  • Learn edX’s technology stack, participate in our agile processes, and take advantage of continuous integration process to ship code as soon as it’s done.
  • Lead the team in finding and implementing material process improvements.
  • Establish strong working relationships with our cross-functional team, which includes engineering, product managers, marketing and UX.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring. Hold regular 1:1’s with your team to define career growth and professional development goals.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in a software engineering position.
  • Prior experience leading a team or mentoring other engineers, both technically and professionally
  • Experience with solving escalated support issues.
  • Real-world experience with Python, HTML/CSS or other dynamic development languages.

Plusses:

  • Familiarity with Open Source web development frameworks; contribution to Open Source frameworks
  • Experience managing offshore development teams using Kanban
  • Experience with mobile development
