About the role:

The Infrastructure Engineering team builds the tools to automate the common infrastructure components for our site. We build tools to deploy our infrastructure across both hardware and cloud tools. Our goal is to build tools and services that teams can use to spin up common components built from as much open source or vendor provided services as possible. We aim to make these components come configured with monitoring and security built in. We document these services and help teams understand what they are using.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to grow and lead a team of exceptional engineers. You will manage a team of infrastructure engineers that will contribute to the Fitbit site by building and maintaining these tools to deploy common components and run services to support them. The team will also help coordinate complex operational changes alongside feature teams. This is a hands-on engineering management position involving both personnel and technical leadership.

 Responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead a team of infrastructure engineers contributing and leading development in product and technology projects across mobile, cloud and backend infrastructure technologies
  • Coach and develop leadership skills of direct reports
  • Maintain core services with high availability and security
  • Work with technical team leads to drive forward technical decisions for projects
  • Develop, track, and communicate progress and risks to technology roadmap, maintaining alignment with product roadmap to various stakeholders
  • Own development and shipment responsibility for projects
  • Oversee and champion architecture and critical implementations, product and service quality, and use of best practices focused on developing highly scalable and secure systems
  • Develop, maintain, and implement staffing and hiring plans working closely with product teams, department management and recruiting team
  • Lead or participate in technology and product development project retrospectives

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience managing infrastructure engineering teams
  • 4+ years professional experience in Sysadmin, SRE or Infrastructure Engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or comparable skill
  • Experienced in architecture design of high-availability services, testing, deployment and monitoring
  • Strong cloud architecture skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience having released consumer applications is a plus
