Engineering Manager, Core Engineering

The Core Engineering Team at edX is seeking a software engineering leader to helpscale our platform and provide access to education for millions of learners worldwide. Core engineering at edX is responsible for cloud infrastructure; the data warehouse; internal systems and tools, like CI/CD infrastructure and platform engineering.

The ideal candidate has built systems and solutions serving millions of customers, is skilled at leading and developing engineers and enjoys hands-on coding and technical challenges. This role will require significant hands-on contributions.

A demonstrated bias to action and ability to manage ambiguity will set you apart.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the hands-on technical leader to a team of 6-8 software engineers
  • Participate in software development, project scoping, requirements reviews, and technical discovery
  • Evaluate project opportunities with Product Management to map project requirements to roadmap plans
  • Work closely with edX Product Managers to fully communicate project status, inter-team dependencies, and any impediments
  • Build highly effective agile teams, instill agile practices, identify areas for improvement and solutions
  • Act as point-of-contact to external vendors and offshore teams
  • Perform team budgeting and forecasting
  • Practices a “you build it, you run it” philosophy to software development and delivery

Requirements:

  • 8+ years software development experience
  • 2+ years in a team lead role
  • Demonstrated experience with agile methods
  • Understanding of distributed architecture
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
