Electrical/Firmware Engineer - Manufacturing Automation
As an Electrical/ Firmware Engineer on the Operations Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, automating and optimizing the manufacturing testing and validation of existing Markforged hardware products as well as new technology. In this role you will have full discretion to design, build and implement systems to track and gate device deployment by leveraging our industry leading device telemetry, as well as manufacturing test data. This role is critical to ensure Markforged devices maintain high quality standards and exceed customer expectations. You will report to the Operations Engineering Lead, building a strong relationship with contract manufacturers (CM) and critical sub-tier suppliers while working closely with the operation teams and manufacturing, hardware, electrical, and software engineers. The ideal candidate exhibits exceptional communication, project management skills and solid engineering fundamentals. This individual must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and be willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.
- Design and implement data visualization systems for manufacturing test data and various device telemetry
- Utilize real-world data to design and build systems and software for validation of electro-mechanical assemblies, critical-to-quality, functional requirements, and full system performance
- Oversee automated test creation and validation for new product introduction launches to ensure new devices perform to strict standards required by our industry leading technology
- Work cross-functionally with Markforged Electrical, Hardware, Software, and Customer Solution teams to ensure project alignment and success throughout product life-cycle and receive mentoring/coaching from these functions
- Support existing product lines at contract manufacturers and lead/coordinate continuous improvement projects to reduce downtime, increase productivity and drive improvement culture with CMs
- Report manufacturing key performance indicators (KPIs) to ops/eng leaders and to senior management

What you have:- Experience troubleshooting and resolving electromechanical issues on a production assembly and test line
- Passion for manufacturing, automation and continuous improvement
- Strong grasp of Python
- Competency in Linux
- Experience with SQL
- Understanding of C/C++ for embedded applications a plus
- Understanding of JavaScript / TypeScript / CoffeeScript a plus
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Experience integrating and automating via RESTful APIs with tools such as Github, PLM, and/or ERP applications
- 2+ years of product-based electromechanical experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills - can convey complex technical topics in simple terms across internal departments and external partners
- Not afraid to challenge the status quo and regularly offers their own ideas
- Comfortable with issue escalation when appropriate
- Extremely motivated and organized individual who can be self-directed in both team-based and individual settings
- Works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Willingness to travel 20-30% both domestically
