Backend Software Engineer
MORSE is an innovative, employee-owned, tech company located in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA specializing in solving multi-disciplinary problems faced by the US National Security Ecosystem. Our specially selected team of engineers, software developers and scientists develop algorithms, software integrated prototypes and solutions for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Manned and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Mission Planning, and Situational Awareness.
MORSE is looking for Backend Software Engineers to support programs involving big data, advanced algorithms, mission planning, and their accompanying web portals. Our applications provide cutting-edge, algorithmic-based simulation, situational awareness, and mission planning capabilities to a wide variety of Department of Defense customers. The work is executed in small multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and software developers.
Skills and Requirements
The Backend Software Engineer will be focused on testable design and implementation of software. A successful candidate will have the ability to proactively participate in both design reviews and in code reviews using pull requests. Creative candidates who want to make an impact to national security will thrive in the MORSE environment.
Additionally, the candidate must be eager to learn new technologies and stay on top of the latest software engineering trends. The candidate will work on a team developing new code bases that are heavily object-oriented, extensible, and maintainable.
US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED or the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
Expertise in at least one general purpose programming language, preferably C# and/or Python 3
Expertise in web and/or desktop application development
Experience with relational database design, data provenance management, ETL pipelines, database administration best practice, Docker and Docker-compose for Dockerized database deployment
Experience with database technologies such as Object-Relational Mappers (preferably SqlAlchemy, Django, or Entity Framework) and database engines (preferably SQL Server, Postgres, or Sqlite)
Experience with version control systems and Agile development (Scrum or Kanban)
Strong communication skills
Self-starter and driven
BS or MS (preferred) in computer science or equivalent degree, or significant professional experience
Desired Skills
Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP)
