Description

Ovia Health is the leading family health and technology company for women and families on their reproductive health journeys. Our mobile apps for fertility, pregnancy, and parenting empower people to take control of their health and navigate parenthood with confidence. We are on a mission to improve fertility and maternity healthcare, and to help women and families live fuller, healthier lives at home and at work. Join us!

We’re looking for a Backend API Team Lead to join our small, energetic engineering team. Team Leads play a critical role in driving the success of our team and products. We work in small, cross-functional agile development teams so the team members you manage may be working on different agile teams (and areas of our products), but all on our API technology. We value flexible team leaders that are focused on the professional and technical growth of their team members while participating in all aspects of the development process. Team Leads define processes by which their team and technology constantly improves, develop a keen understanding of each of individuals' interests and passions and takes the initiative to keep their team motivated and aligned with company and team goals.

Core Responsibilities

The Team Lead role is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be the manager of our Backend API team of 3-5 engineers as well as a contributing engineer on our cross-functional Agile teams. Some of your high-level responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching and mentorship focused on consistent improvement and career development
  • Manage and own your team’s performance
  • Participate as a contributing engineer on our cross-functional Agile teams
  • Communicate transparently throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle
  • Produce clean, modular and maintainable software solutions
  • Define and manage a process by which the Backend API Team proactively and consistently identifies and prioritizes technical and process improvements, and ensure we have a plan to execute.
  • Foster an environment with a high degree of trust and transparency.
  • Provide consistent and high-quality code review feedback that improves the software and helps the team members learn and improve
  • Motivate your team and ensure everyone has a deep understanding of team and company objectives and mission

Requirements

  • Experience managing engineering teams while fostering a culture of trust, high expectations, user/customer focus and high quality.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a variety of formats, ability to empathize with and motivate team members from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels
  • Experience building large-scale APIs. Knowledge of and curiosity about multiple languages of different types is helpful, but it is a big advantage if some of this experience is with PHP.
  • Proficient at taking large, complicated technical projects and breaking down the work into clear stages and deliverables across multiple platforms
  • Fluent in engineering best practices such as testability and ability to incorporate these into designs and execution
  • Track record of contributing to technology and product direction, collaboration across different teams, and delivering solutions that meet expectations and are pragmatic.
  • Thrives in fast paced environments, embracing and leading through change and ambiguity
  • Flexible and creative mindset with the ability to overcome obstacles with a positive outlook
  • High autonomy, and superior time and project management skills

Benefits

We are a lively, creative team that works hard and laughs a lot. We love what we do, and working at Ovia Health is a chance to be a part of something big! We value our employees tremendously, and do what we can to help them stay happy and healthy both at work and away from it. In addition to a supportive and healthy environment, we offer:

  • Small, dynamic and tight-knit team
  • Supportive, collaborative atmosphere
  • We value growth and education, and offer reimbursement for classes and conferences
