DesktopMetal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team and can be used within an office environment. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. DesktopMetal is seeking a talented and self-motivated Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer The ideal candidate will have experience architecting and developing machine controls and novel electro-mechanical systems from concept to production.

The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Developing technology platforms that can be broadly applied to 3D printing
  • Designing and implementing complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Integrating motion planning with vision, perception, and other sensors
  • Designing and specifying motion and sensing control equipment
  • Developing and implementing control architectures
  • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to define and write use cases, requirements, technical specifications and design verification test plans
  • Interfacing with external companies supplying components or services
  • Documenting designs and assisting with development of test plans
  • Working closely with program management and regulatory teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop deep understanding of the business and end user needs quickly, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution
  • Broad exposure to embedded systems, mechanical, and electrical design and development practices including common engineering tools used for such efforts with detailed knowledge and expertise in at least one of these areas
  • Experience developing multithreaded object oriented software with Java, C# or C++ for robotics or closely related industry
  • Implemented multi-axis servo and stepper controls
  • Expert in the implementation of real-time control systems
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
  • Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Expert in robotics and/or 3D printing
  • BS/MS Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Understanding of safety systems and functionally safe design
