Learning Designer – Course Planning/Script Writer
Job Description
Learning Design Course Planners are responsible for assuring the instructional integrity of Skillsoft Business Skills and Compliance courses during the course planning process. Learning Designers create instructional plans for business skills or compliance courses that adhere to and comply with Skillsoft's IP creation standards.
Job Responsibilities:
The Learning Designer, in collaboration with IP Creation and Content Management, oversees the completion of high-quality deliverables in accordance with agreed schedules. This includes designing courses by creating an instructional plan that conveys the overall instructional goal, along with the topics and instructional objectives needed to meet the goal; the test strategy used to assess mastery of the objective, which includes specification of a question type and the specific content attributes that need to be tested and taught in the topic; outlining a sequence of instruction within the topic and citing source references for the writers who will use the plan to write the scripts for the course.
Job Requirements
Undergraduate degree in Instructional Design, Education, or an equivalent combination of on-the-job training and experience
Formal instructional design education, professional development or training program preferred, but not required; Masters Level degree in related field a major plus
Proven experience with e-learning theories, concepts, and standards
Proven experience planning and designing instructional materials through the instructional design process
Experience working with content in the areas of Business, Leadership, and Professional Development; Interpersonal Skills; Technical Business Skills; Legal Compliance; or Environmental, Safety, and Health is highly desirable (designing, writing, journalism, instruction, editing)
PC and MS Windows literate; browser savvy; working knowledge of ftp, zip, search engines, and other computer utilities and tools
Experience working on virtual teams and/or with remote partners highly desirable
Experience working in a fast-paced work environment highly beneficial
High level of technical competence (ability to quickly and efficiently master proprietary and off-the-shelf systems, tools, and processes)
Skills Required:
Ability to adhere to schedules, handle overlapping tasks and meet deadlines without sacrificing product quality
Ability to actualize instructional design and learning principles into effective e-learning
Ability to think visually and express those visuals in words; familiarity with graphic design elements appropriate for e-learning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as listening/observation skills
Ability to work independently
Excellent organization skills with high attention to detail
