Instructional Designer
Overview
The role of the Jr. Instructional Designer is to review the instructional design, clarity, and writing mechanics of online training materials. He/she will help develop engaging, aesthetic materials grounded in current and emerging theories and best practices of instructional design.
Responsibilities
- Identifies course objectives/content and assesses/recommends the most effective online instructional method to achieve the goals.
- Identifies gaps and improves learning objectives and specifications.
- Revises content for overall clarity and mechanics, confirms content achieves its purpose, and ensures tone is appropriate for different audiences.
- Evaluates training effectiveness on an ongoing basis as well as maintains and updates existing materials.
- Stays well-informed of emerging E-learning concepts and technologies.
- Verifies materials conform to the house style guide and maintain consistency internally and across delivery platforms.
- Shapes internal style guide to enhance consistency and reusability of content.
- Develops technical expertise for relevant technology areas, such as the cloud and big data.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of instructional design experience (online course development experience preferred).
- Experience editing technical materials.
- Mixture of strong technical and communication/interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail and drive to resolve issues.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret a style sheet and apply edits accordingly.
- Strong editing skills are preferred, including proofreading, spelling, grammar, and format checking.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Open edX, Absorb, Moodle, Cornerstone, Saba or similar technology.
- Desire to learn new technologies.
- Active within the instructional design/technology community.
- Ability to work fast and independently.
- Understanding of XML/HTML markup preferred.
Education and Training
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, technical communications, E-learning, adult education, applied technology, or instructional design.
