Position Summary: The Pricing Strategy Senior Associate is a key contributor to athena’s success, driving analysis and insight critical to setting our value across the healthcare marketplace. The ideal candidate is a passionate self-starter who has proven capabilities with analytics, modeling and research with a focus towards pricing. He/she will design pricing strategies to ensure profitable customer acquisition and growth, will create advanced models assessing the impact of these strategies, and will work with various stakeholders to coordinate pricing strategies and pricing implementation across the organization. The associate will need to be a team player and be experienced at delivering clear insight. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable doing technical work in an ambiguous and fast paced environment, as well as communicate effectively with various stakeholders across a range of departments.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
75% Develop Pricing Strategies

  • Determine optimal pricing strategies and models to support existing and new athenahealth services. Assist in the development of pricing formulation and measurement.
  • Accumulate and analyze quantitative and qualitative insight into price and value from primary and secondary research, internal teams, and an understanding of economic value in healthcare technology/services, software as a service, and network/platform business models.
  • Develop pricing models assessing the impact of different pricing scenarios on performance.
  • Maintain value-driven ‘cost of ownership’ model to drive ROI calculations for internal and external stakeholders, supporting both the ROI model itself as well as the data queries and infrastructure behind it.
  • Creation and communication of packaging/pricing enablement materials for prospect and client facing teams.


25% Establish Pricing Processes

  • Build, maintain relationships across athena product management to stay on top of issues, gaps, capabilities and other changes to our services
  • Manage and participate in governance of metric measurement of athenahealth’s value and pricing performance
  • Work closely with product management, finance and client-facing teams for input and feedback toward our pricing models
  • Establish strong relationships with key Product owners, Finance, Legal teams.


Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor degree (Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or another quantitative degree)
  • 2-5 years of related analytics, pricing, product management, or consulting experience; background in healthcare or platform/network businesses is a plus
  • Familiarity with multiple pricing methodologies
  • Experience with competitive intelligence and/or market research


Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong problem solving skills – critical thinking is a must
  • Proven track record of success and delivering impact to the business
  • Excellent business writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional groups and teams to achieve common goals
  • Ability to influence both horizontally and vertically inside and outside of athena.
  • Ability to prioritize and to multi-task in a face paced environment, manage several projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and communicate potential conflicts to manager
  • Ability to be flexible and change with environment, industry, and business demands
  • Demonstrated experience with financial modeling or data modeling, and statistical analysis
  • Advanced level skill in MS Excel; proficiency in SQL or similar BI/data management/analysis tools
