About the role:

This is an exciting phase in our growth. We are moving beyond ad hoc spreadsheets and manual data extracts, to embed seamless data-driven decision-making and analytics throughout the business. You will be responsible for building out a green-field data warehousing and analytics system to support the needs of Product, Marketing and Finance. You will lead an engineering team to design, set up and operate data storage, ETL, and data viz. You will report to the CTO, and work closely with counterparts and users in Product, Marketing and Finance.

What you’ll do:

  • Implement and operate ETL from first-party and third-party transactional data sources, and federated queries, as appropriate
  • Implement and operate a highly scalable data warehouse to store and query data (e.g. Redshift), including structured/relational data and unstructured/nonrelational data, and clickstream data
  • Manage a universal data model to allow non-technical people to query across diverse data sources in sensible ways
  • Implement and rollout one or more data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Metabase)
  • Provide training and support to analysts across the company
  • Communicate solutions effectively with users and team members
  • Create and host dashboards and other data products
  • Hire, manage and develop the engineers on your team
  • Be accountable for the success of the team including progress towards milestones and for successful outcomes for users

What experience we’re looking for:

  • Several years of team and project management experience
  • Experience delivering BI tooling and reports for Marketing, Product and Finance teams
  • Experience designing and implementing data warehousing systems
  • Expertise with AWS Redshift
  • Experience with these is a plus:
    • Spark
    • Snowflake
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Big Query
    • Dataflow
    • AWS Glue
    • AWS Athena
  • Expertise designing data warehouse schemas, and designing and building ETL and data ingestion pipelines
  • Expertise introducing Tableau or similar into an organization
  • Experience managing operations for HA/DR
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and manage internal and external stakeholders across all levels of seniority.
  • A “customer-centric” approach to providing services to our internal employees, balancing employee requests and needs with reason, and proactively communicating with key stakeholders.
