Energy Analyst
The Energy Analyst, with some guidance, will support the Advisory Solutions business unit as well as numerous teams and stakeholders. This individual will be tasked with becoming ‘the’ energy expert in the assigned region(s) by understanding the components of both the supply and distribution costs for customers as well as fundamental and technical analysis to regional energy market(s). Analysts are responsible for conveying the information (orally and written) to customers and internal stakeholders as technical experts, as well as providing customer analyses. Types of energy analyzed for customers include electric, natural gas, other fuels, and distributed generation systems. Energy Analysts may also be recruited to provide customer analysis as part of the sales process.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Reporting customer analytics: customer energy budgets, variance to budget, savings from default service, VaR analysis, load profiles, mark to market reporting, tariff analysis, pricing indices, procurement summary analytics and ad hoc requests
  • Become the regional expert on assigned energy market(s)
  • Accountable for leading and contributing to structured close-out and data management process for procurement software
  • Maintain the integrity of EnerNOC’s procurement software
  • Assist in the bid analysis for customer RFP’s
  • Create, enhance and maintain deliverable models (Excel and Software based)
  • Attend customer meetings with a Procurement Manager or Energy Advisor as needed
  • Write and report energy market content for internal and external market commentary
  • Develop process/tool improvement projects
  • Presale work as requested
  • Assist the Product team in analyzing new supply markets, concepts, and commodities as requested
  • Train other members of the Enel X organization and EnerNOC as needed
  • Attend skills training to meet skills requirements and maintain certifications
  • Learn other EnerNOC products as needed, including software services and energy services
  • Performing other duties as required

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Some market knowledge in US deregulated energy markets
  • Some market knowledge of the US natural gas system
  • Excellent computer skills and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong Spreadsheet skills, experience with database queries and cost modeling
  • Technical writing experience
  • Background in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or Energy and derivatives markets
  • Budgeting, forecasting and price structuring
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a corporate setting preferably in the natural gas or power industry
  • Excellent attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • Knowledge of electric cost components and RTO pricing in the US energy markets
  • Accounting, finance and budgeting experience
  • Ability to read tariffs and recreate electric and natural gas utility costs
  • Previous power or gas price structuring, risk management or analysis experience
  • IT and programming skills that will improve existing spreadsheet based models
  • SQL, R, Python, or other programming languages
  • Natural gas or electric scheduling experience
