“The entire foundation of our company culture is based on trust,” said Bell, who added that trust is also central to the engineering team’s culture, which results in a collaborative, idea-friendly space. And just as the culture is built to encourage success, the technology — like open-source libraries and domain-driven architecture — is aimed at results. “Our success is having small, fast, autonomous services built by small, fast, autonomous teams. In short, we are in charge of our own destiny, and we are set up to deliver it really fast!” he said.

Thanks to the company’s remote model plus helpful flex PTO, Roh has moved multiple times across the country without it impacting her role. Kola Awe, a senior software engineer and team lead for Moov’s ledger team, described the autonomy and ownership granted to engineering teams at Moov as being beneficial to the technologists’ work. Additionally, Awe said that open and collaborative communication practices are central to success, like org-wide Slack channels, Google Drive and Notion document visibility and fluid access to repositories for engineers. “This means information, good or bad, isn’t siloed and everyone can see the impact of their work and contributions to the overall growth of the company,” Awe said.
