Crayon raises $3.4M in seed funding

Crayon, a Boston-based startup that provides companies with market intelligence, announced that it has raised $3.35 million in seed funding this week. The round was led by Eric Paley, managing partner at Founder Collective, and Steve Anderson, founder of Baseline Ventures. Crayon will use the funding to increase its employee headcount in engineering, product and sales. It will also hire a head of marketing. [BostInno]

 

Paul English’s GetHuman raises $3M

GetHuman, a Boston-based startup that offers customer service tools, raised $3 million in funding this week, led by Founder Collective and NextView Ventures. The company began as a side project for Paul English, co-founder of Kayak and founder of Lola Travel, when he dreamt up a website where people could find direct phone numbers to companies’ customer service agents. Currently, GetHuman shows people the fastest ways to get in touch with companies’ customer service departments. [BostInno]

 

HubSpot’s ‘Inbound 2016’ conference boasts serious star power

Inbound 2016, HubSpot's massive sales and marketing conference, started Tuesday evening at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in the Seaport District. The event runs to Friday and features more than 200 speakers in spotlight interviews, training sessions and keynote addresses about tech and innovation this year. Many of the big names in attendance are impressive even for those outside the tech world: Anna Kendrick, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Alec Baldwin all presented. [Boston Business Journal]
 
 

6 Boston tech companies give employees Election Day off

Regardless of outcome, many employers wanted to make sure their workers had no excuse not to vote in this presidential election. In fact, over 300 companies joined together to give their employees time off on November 8. The Take Off Election Day campaign recognizes employers that are giving their employees this time off to vote, and counts nine Massachusetts companies among its supporters. [Built In Boston]

 

Northeastern’s bootcamp ‘Level’ to expand beyond the U.S.

Level, a tech skills bootcamp operating out of Northeastern University, announced that this January it will launch its first program outside the U.S. with its expansion to Toronto. Currently, Level has offered bootcamps in Boston, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Charlotte. Their first cohort began class in fall 2015 with 12 students and since then, Level has graduated 99 students and has another 70 enrolled in programs. [BostInno]
