Company culture isn’t just a nice-to-have: According to statistics, 46 percent of job seekers cite company culture as an important factor when applying to jobs.

At Cybba, Teikametrics and Perficient, all-hands meetings with the CEO, collaboration across departments and fast-tracked professional development — not to mention innovative tech across the e-commerce, advertising and consulting industries — are all components that would encourage those 46 percent to send in their resumes. Below, employees from these Boston companies describe how their own company cultures support their professional growth.

Best of all? They’re hiring.

Devin Manternach
User Interface Designer • Perficient

What Perficient does: Perficient is a digital transformation consulting firm that serves Global 2000 and enterprise customers. They work with clients to customize marketing solutions, whether that be SEO, paid media or email automation. From there, Perficient adds customer experience elements, like web redesign, to boost traffic. To support healthcare clients during the onset of COVID-19, the team established a virtual “war room” to create strategies and solutions. For example, they launched a free COVID-19 assessment chatbot with Drift in three days.

Perficient’s company culture in one word: “Rewarding,” Devin Manternach, a user interface designer, said.

What “company culture” means at Perficient: “Everyone I work with has a great appreciation for one another and the work we do,” Manternach said. “There have been many times that a project manager or team leader has acknowledged a job well done.

“Since transitioning to working virtually, team collaboration and our culture have remained intact. I often work with colleagues from across the country and have regular meetings with them as we did pre-COVID-19. It’s a great feeling to have hard work appreciated both by team members and clients.”

How long have you been with the company, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

“I joined Perficient shortly after graduating college and have been part of the team for over four years now,” Manternach said. “I’ve had many opportunities to grow both my skill set and career, including learning new programs and tools and taking on new projects.

“When I joined Perficient, my role was to support other members of my team. Since then, I have grown and transitioned to leading my own projects within the UI design group. There is no shortage of knowledge and skills to expand on. I’m grateful to have the opportunities to do just that with Perficient.”

Julia Crawford
Senior Account Manager • Cybba

What Cybba does: Cybba provides personalized digital marketing and advertising solutions to global e-commerce brands to help them turn more visitors into customers. They assemble teams of account managers, designers and ad ops specialists to increase traffic and customer conversion rates. Their product dashboard allows clients to see performance metrics and in-depth analytics for their brands. According to recent case studies, Mizuno reported a 10.98 percent conversion rate and Motorola saw a 50:1 ROI using Cybba solutions.

Cybba’s company culture in one word: “Collaborative,” Senior Account Manager Julia Crawford said.

What “company culture” means at Cybba: “As an account manager, we work cross-functionally with almost every team from sales, advertising operations, tech and marketing,” Crawford said. “Everyone is always willing to lend a hand with a project or jump on a quick call to help answer a question. You truly feel like you are working in an environment where everyone is on the same team and wants to help each other succeed. On the account management team, we are always bouncing ideas off each other over Slack to help come up with new strategies and campaigns for our clients.”

How long have you been with the company, and what professional growth or development have you seen in that time?

“When I came in two years ago, I was given a very small book of business but I have grown my skills in strategic account management and overall knowledge of digital marketing to now manage some of our largest accounts,” Crawford said. “I attribute my success to my team who are all heavily involved in my training and professional growth. Everyone is constantly sharing insights and advice on accounts.

“I was also given the opportunity to start the Northeastern co-op program at Cybba. I am able to manage the co-op and give back in the training and teaching areas that have made me as successful as I am today.”

Daniel Robert
Senior Director of Technology, Infrastructure • Teikametrics

What Teikametrics does: Teikametrics helps e-commerce sellers and brand owners make sure that their advertising dollars spent at Amazon and Walmart lead to brand awareness and increased profits. With marketplace data, artificial intelligence and expertise, sellers can measure the incremental impact of advertising on sales. Teikametrics raised $15 million in February 2020.

Teikametrics’ company culture in one word: “Collaborative,” Daniel Robert, a senior director of technology, said.

What “company culture” means at Teikametrics: “As our Chief Growth Officer, John Shea says, ‘Sales performance reflects the total company’s performance,’” Robert said. “Our CEO, Alasdair McLean-Foreman, tells us every Monday at our all-hands meeting to strive for total alignment across departments. In engineering, we know that two heads are better than one and emphasize a culture of pairing and open communication. When we ask questions publicly, everyone benefits.”

I’ve always felt that the best way to produce big change is to make many small changes.”

What’s the coolest project you've worked on recently, and how did it help you grow professionally?

“I’ve always felt that the best way to produce big change is to make many small changes,” Robert said. “Like the classic Silicon Valley cliché, ‘We’re flying the plane while we’re building it,’ and the coolest part of this to me is how much we’re able to push and expand our offering without ‘stop the world and rebuild’ projects. Most recently, we’ve made a big push into Kafka, which has allowed us to experiment with, expand and scale both our infrastructures, as well as our development teams. Of course, the coolest part of this is the projects this facilitates for our data science and feature development teams.”
