A recently approved real estate development on the west end of the Allston neighborhood will add more than 700,000 square feet of lab and office space for Boston’s booming biotech and life sciences sector.

Boston city officials recently approved Berkeley Investments’ plan for 176 Lincoln, a three-building development featuring a mix of restaurants, apartments and retail stores on a five-acre site at 176 Lincoln St.

Berkeley Investments said in a statement that the development will create an “innovation village” that combines research space, housing and public gathering spaces. The two main commercial buildings will feature 720,000 square feet of lab, office and research development space for biotech and life sciences companies. The development will also include 252 apartments and 10 artist loft spaces.

The developer touted the project’s close proximity to Harvard University’s growing Allston footprint, including the recently completed Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Harvard Innovation Labs.

“With its location adjacent to Harvard’s growing Allston campus and its introduction of state-of-the-art Class A lab space, 176 Lincoln will be an important addition to the rapidly growing life science, medical, academic research and corporate corridor stretching through Boston and into Cambridge,” Berkeley Investments President Young Park said in a statement. “176 Lincoln will create a brand-new innovation cluster in Boston that will draw together scientists, researchers, innovators, artists and residents in a beautifully landscaped setting, steps away from public transit, 10 minutes from Logan International Airport and with easy access to and high visibility from I-90.”
