Visual Design Intern

Are you a curious, talented and dogged designer who “works well with others”?

Okay, then. Let’s continue.

We’re looking for an intern to join our Brand & Buzz Creative Team in our Cambridge, Massachusetts global headquarters -- now through October 2017.

The position marries autonomy & hands-on experience with guidance & mentorship from talented members of the design team.

So, what’s HubSpot’s Creative Team?

A skilled and savvy team of web and studio/experiential designers and video producers, editors and shooters, we’re an in-house agency at HubSpot tasked with answering the company’s most ambitious questions. Creatively, and with the human element at the forefront of our thinking.

The Creative Team works on strategic projects across a myriad mediums - including web, social, print, OOH, event -- while reinforcing our brand positioning and visual identity. We’re also a big part in the buildout of our INBOUND event, which draws nearly 20,000 people from around the globe for a week of inspiration and education in Boston each year.

That’s us, now who are you?

So, as we imagine it, you’ve got the creative chops to really “explore the space”, but you’re able to follow instructions, too. You adhere to style guidelines while working on multiple projects simultaneously, including anything from environmental design, event branding, print, web and social media, to informational graphics, executive presentations, photography, logos, and SWAG.

Your study and practice of design and branding across multi-disciplinary environments has taught you no one design challenge ever fits comfortably into a single, specific design discipline.

Still with us and checking the boxes? Good. Here are a few more:

Superb attention to detail. Check?

A natural problem-solver. Check?

Typography talented. Check?

Not constrained to one or two specialties. Check?

An ideal Visual Designer Intern candidate will:

  • Deliver their best effort regardless of format, audience or “interest” in the project
  • Know the difference between “good” and “great” design and are able to work through team dynamics, clients and timelines to deliver excellent design
  • Understand and can articulate a human-centered approach to design and be comfortable going out into the world for inspiration.
  • Have strong verbal and visual presentation skills; demonstrate a clear “point‐of‐view” relating to their design, and understand the value of design and branding within a business context.
  • Be ready to learn from failure, embrace an iterative process and understand that success comes sooner with trial and error; have experience in creating both low and high fidelity design deliverables for print and screen.

A few more requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year internship or freelance experience
  • A portfolio with strong design samples across formats and areas of expertise
  • Extensive applied knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • A team player who can accept feedback & constructive criticism (don’t worry, we’re nice)
  • Positive, curious and innovative approach to working with others
  • Production design experience
  • Not prone to complaining; instead of announcing problems, announces solutions to challenges

And some really nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HTML & CSS
  • Experience in photography
  • Experience in animation / motion graphics

To be considered, please provide us with your resume, a link to your online portfolio, and brief note on why you’d like to join the team.

About HubSpot

Founded in 2006, HubSpot is an inbound marketing & sales software company. We hire for aptitude and attitude over experience, and we pride ourselves on attracting and retaining people with H.E.A.R.T. In fact, we publicly shared HubSpot’s Culture Code for anyone who is interested in our values and approach to work. At the core of what drives us is one simple phrase, “Solve For The Customer.” This maniacal focus is more than a mantra; putting the customer first is evident in the product we ship, the support we provide, and the way we market and sell. And doing so makes us deliriously happy.
