Position Summary:

athenahealth is seeking a Senior Manager, Website Product Management to own and drive truly engaging experiences on athenahealth.com for our target users. athenahealth.com is going to be the showcase for the athenahealth network, accessible by prospects and customers across all segments. Our website is one of our most effective, highly valued marketing and engagement channels, but we need to build on those qualities exponentially. This leader must have applicable client/customer facing product management experience with a keen focus on optimizing the user experience of a web channel across all our target segments.
The Product Manager will evolve, optimize, and analyze the success of athenahealth.com. We are seeking a blend of strategist, cross-functional collaborator, results driven champion. The right person for this role will aptly navigate a multi-stakeholder environment with continuously competing priorities, while focusing on delivering the best, most engaging experience for our web site users. Using Agile methodologies, you will collaborate with remote tech teams who are responsible for execution and rollout.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • 40% Define direction and product roadmap for web properties for target user segments with the goal of driving specific business goals
    • Deeply understand the wants and needs of target user segments
    • Create strategies to better engage assigned user segment and achieve business goals
    • Implement those strategies while balancing internal business initiatives with a perspective on client and prospect engagement on the website
    • Oversee customer and usability research, develop and socialize insights to improve site performance
    • Lead and provide expertise on complex, technical projects from concept through analysis, design and execution
    • Clearly define epics, articulating business requirements and target KPIs for the problems we’re trying to solve - including user experience and business requirements
    • Drive ongoing backlog prioritization of epics, with a focus on data-driven analysis and prioritization of complex tradeoffs
    • Work in close collaboration with other US based Product Managers and India based Product Owners and scrum teams to ensure epics are delivered in a timely and iterative manner
    • Work with testing leads to “test and learn” key features through a/b and multi variant testing methodologies, with a goal to constantly improve site and feature performance
    • Design alphas and beta to ensure proper feedback will be received
    • Achieve radical, measurable performance improvements
  • 30% Cross-Functional Coordination and Stakeholder Management
    • Manage relationships and expectations successfully across technology, business, Sales and design stakeholders
    • Partner with technology, Product Marketing and Segment leads on key website initiatives and priorities
    • Help to remove obstacles to effective and efficient product delivery from scrum teams
    • Partner with Product Management leaders to drive portfolio and product strategy
      • Act as accountable party for the portfolio and product strategy of assigned product area, via product roadmaps
      • Provide input to PRSM/portfolio planning process for assigned product area.
    • Contribute to the development of overall product management team by lending your knowledge and experience to teach others what you know
      • Learn from others based upon their experience in order to improve product owner capabilities
      • Effectively prioritize work assignments for Product Associates and Sr. Associates as needed; offering timely and actionable feedback on work in order to improve the quality and utility of their analysis and deliverables
  • 30% Team Leadership
    • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of athenistas, modeling effective relationship building, ensuring high employee engagement and managing staff career progression.
    • Contribute to workforce planning, staffing/forecasting of resource requirements, continually assessing and optimizing team structure as well as processes, policies and procedures to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness direct/indirect reports

Education, Experience, & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Degree (Bachelor’s or Masters) in Computer Science, Business, or Product Design preferred
  • A minimum of 4 - 6 years of product management experience
  • Agile experience or certification required
  • Understanding of healthcare / health IT environment a plus
  • 3-7 years working with stakeholders in a business environment, working across cross-functional groups
  • Technical understanding (mobile, SaaS, data) – ability to gut check technical feasibility and timelines and remove technical development barriers
  • Experience bringing products to market
  • Understanding of product management best practices, including agile development environments
  • Demonstrated success at driving innovation in a dynamic environment using analytic and quantitative capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
