What if nature could be harnessed to help farmers sustainably feed the planet? Since 2014, Indigo has questioned agriculture's full value chain to improve grower profitability, environmental sustainability, and consumer health. The company’s scientific discoveries and digital innovations have amplified new value from soil to sale, benefiting more than 10,000 growers to date. Indigo is also the company behind The Terraton Initiative, a global effort to drawdown one trillion tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide by unlocking the potential of agricultural soils. In 2019, Indigo was ranked #1 on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list. Headquartered in Boston, MA, Indigo has additional offices in Memphis, TN; Research Triangle Park, NC; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Basel, Switzerland; and São Paulo, Brazil.

What if we told you that this is an experiment and we are doing some AB testing on job descriptions? Would you get excited and start thinking of ideas to improve the testing? And what if we needed to define metrics and build a dashboard to drive better decisions to improve candidate traffic? What sort of story would you weave from the threads of data that we gather?

We’d like your expertise answering these questions, but we won’t take your time to focus on hiring analytics because you’ll be busy taking ownership of product analytics across Indigo’s product portfolio. Ultimately, you will partner with stakeholders to understand the questions being asked and architect a data analytics infrastructure that enables these stakeholders to make data-driven product decisions. This role will be “down in the weeds” (we are, after-all, in agriculture) defining metrics and producing insights, but you will also drive a high-level impact across our entire product portfolio. By measuring user behavior and establishing sufficient data, you will answer the all-important "so what" question, and in doing so, influence strategy through cross-functional partnerships throughout the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Data and Metrics Ownership
    • Gain familiarity with and autonomously navigate tech and data stacks to field general questions from stakeholders
    • Assume ownership of HEAP analytics to ensure metric quality and accuracy
    • Ensure and improve data integrity, data accuracy, and data quality
    • Architect a data analytics infrastructure that is consistent across Indigo products
  • Product Insights
    • Establish a solid understanding of key Marketplace user groups
    • Develop initial health and metrics dashboards to drive product development (for each pillar of product management)
    • Integrate KPIs/metrics into regular product updates
    • Own success of key Grain Marketplace metrics
  • Stakeholder Partnership and Collaboration
    • Lead partnership with BI and Commercial teams around shared asks, reconciliation, etc.
    • Craft stories from data; utilize understanding of available data and their limitations (statistical significance, AB testing, etc.) to compose impactful stories

Competencies:

  • Creative with ambiguous datasets; strong problem-solving skills in the face of constraints or gaps in support
    • Skilled at translating vague questions about messy data into clear metrics
  • Able to partner with a large cross-functional product team
  • Excellent communication skills
    • Able to actively listen and ask follow-up questions to understand stakeholder needs
    • Can clearly explain metrics and technical challenges to non-technical users
    • Strong storytelling (from data) skills
  • Independent; able to juggle multiple priorities and communicate appropriate expectations for ad hoc requests
    • Understands both the big picture and the details; happy to get “down in the weeds”
    • Autonomously adjusts priorities and seamlessly handles stakeholder management as business needs change
  • Evangelist for data-driven product decisions
    • Understands how process impacts resultant data
    • Passion for understanding the product/business context in order to predict future product analytics asks
  • Takes a “teach a fish” approach vs. needing to get involved every time
  • Strong “get it done” attitude with a knack to deliver and iterate
  • Curious; not afraid to ask questions or pursue clarity
  • Understands, embodies, and is passionate about Indigo’s mission and core values

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of identifying meaningful & actionable insights (with examples of when insights led to a change in product strategy)
  • 3-5+ years experience in web analytics for a multi-platform application
  • Experience working closely with fast-paced, agile development teams made up of product, engineering, and design
  • Proven professional experience with:
    • Customer experience cycles / funnels
    • E-commerce funnels
    • Transitioning from low to high volumes of users (with keen knowledge of tolls/infrastructure for each stage)
    • Tagging and tracking best practices
    • AB testing
    • Establishing self-service dashboards
    • Datasets that span multiple locales (preferred)
  • Tools and technologies:
    • HEAP or Amplitude (or other similar tool) experience required
    • Dashboarding experience (Looker, etc.) strongly preferred
    • SQL experience preferred
    • HTML / web UX familiarity preferred

Indigo is committed to living our values, specifically “creating a work environment where everyone feels respected, connected, and has opportunities to learn and grow.” As part of living our values, we strive to create a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone feels they can be themselves and has an equal opportunity of succeeding.
