Assay Development/Chemistry Scientist

Boston Microfluidics is seeking an assay development/chemistry scientist to join our product development team. We've reinvented the way blood is collected and tested, and we're looking for people to help us develop next generations of our product platform. We are looking to improve our current collection devices (including chemistries) and are expanding to rapid tests (lateral flow assays). The scientist will also work closely with the engineering team, external companies to source novel chemistries to integrate with our collection device and rapid test platform.

Qualified candidates will be involved in bringing in new chemistries, assays, lateral flow cards. He/she will integrate the chemistries with the engineering solutions to develop novel lateral flow assay (LFA) products. He/she will also work to improve the chemistry specifications of our current collection device. 

We believe innovative products come from a combination of teamwork, communication, and dedication to good testing, documenting & manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, source novel chemistries from other companies, universities
  • Work with engineers to improve the performance of our collection device for a wider menu of downstream assays
  • Work with engineers to develop a menu of LFA tests on our Rapid test platform
  • Experimental design followed by execution of test plan, including testing of biological samples in medical devices. (Non-infectious analog samples, safe to use outside of biosafety facilities. No specific lab experience is required but is definitely a plus.)
  • Prior experience with assay development key
  • Prior experience with running assays in a CLIA lab a plus
  • Communicating, brainstorming, and collaborating with a diverse, close-knit team
  • At times, leading development efforts on specific programs while, at other teams, being a key team member on other programs

Qualified candidates will have at least some of the skills and experience listed below. If you otherwise meet all the qualifications for this position, our goal will be to help you build the additional skills you need. 

Skills and Experience:

  • BS or BA in a chemical engineering or chemistry field, an MS or Ph.D. a plus
  • Two+ years of experience working on the development of assays / LFAs
  • Product development and/or medical manufacturing experience
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written)
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Ability to act independently to determine methods and procedures
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
