As a Product Safety and Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for defining Markforged's compliance strategy and ensuring our products meet all required global regulation. You will be responsible for staying current on the ever changing regulatory landscape and actively prioritize requirements for the engineering and product teams while managing vendors responsible for supporting our compliance.


You will:

  • Establish a compliance program with software tools in place to ensure periodic reviews as needed for items mentioned above.
  • Obtain and maintain product safety approvals.
  • Represent company with regulators and compliance test labs.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable standards.
  • Consult with corporate attorneys as needed to address difficult regulatory compliance issues
  • Communicate emerging regulatory issues with the management team and employees to increase awareness.
  • Maintain professional certifications and trainings to remain current on changing regulations.
  • Interpret U.S. and international regulations to ensure compliance to industry standards and directives, including EMC, Low Voltage, REACH, Machine and RoHS directives.
  • Responsible for the creation and management of SDS sheets and compliance.
  • Influence product design for functional safety and CE compliance.
  • Functionally test safety of products, and document resulting data, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Lead the certification of all of our products to appropriate industry standards.
  • Compile and maintain safety file/technical construction file consisting of test data, component certifications, engineering reports, biometric analysis, etc.
  • Prepare test plans for electrical, EMC and functional safety compliance verification.
  • Evaluate hardware, software and electronic-based safety systems per US, Canadian, Cenelec, IEC and ISO standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Manage foreign country safety approvals process.
  • Select and manage the relationship and work with test labs and agencies.
  • Support compliance to regulations involving stewardship including recycling, environmental restriction of substances, and manufacturer extended responsibility at equipment end-of-life.
  • Train new distributors on safety standards and how we think about the safety of our products in the context of the safety standards
  • Develop ongoing safety-related tools needed to support sales cycles (e.g. templates, how-to tools).

We're looking for people who:

  • Have a BS in mechanical engineering , electrical engineering, materials science or applicable degree
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and international regulation
  • 5+ years in product design, testing and agency approvals
  • Significant knowledge of US, European, Mexican, Canadian, Russian, and Chinese national standards and certifications.
