The Opportunity
As a Strategic Finance Consultant, you'll have an opportunity to contribute to helping our businesses grow and become more profitable. You will learn about our businesses' corporate support activities, challenges and priorities and use that information to help drive decision-making. You will partner with FP&A, Controllers, and other teams across CFO to understand financial performance, leveraging data platforms to identify key information that will help tell the story. You will provide support to Insurance/Digital Operations on performance, opportunities for cost efficiencies, benchmarking comparisons, sales, profitability and results and considerations for decision-making. You will contribute to engagement for change, innovation, and value creation.
In this role you will demonstrate accountability, agility, inclusivity, business acumen, and courage even in difficult situations. Effective communication skills will be key to successful relationship-building and articulating the reasoning and bases for your recommendations and conclusions. You will demonstrate an inquisitive approach, asking probing questions to identify issues with specificity.
The Team
The SFBP team spearheads finance support for other functional areas of MM, coordinating with other teams throughout CFO to provide reporting, analysis, and decision support. This role will primarily support MassMutual's Insurance Operations and Digital Operations divisions which own most of MM's underwriting and policy servicing activities. Secondary responsibilities may include financial analysis in support of the Institutional Solutions businesses (PRT, BOLI/COLI, Stable Value, Funding Agreements). The SFBP team is uniquely positioned with a broad range of stakeholders within the broader CFO organization and directly in the business units we support.
The Impact:
Expand engagement between CFO and a group of 10-15 senior leaders in Insurance Operations and Digital Operations. Conduct monthly financial reviews with each senior leader and be a go-to resource for decision-making support.
Become a key advisor in achieving strategic targets that have been established for Insurance/Digital Operations, and ensure forecasts appropriately reflect the level and timing of expected spend and benefits.
Assess reasonableness and own communication of highly visible unit cost and advisor satisfaction KPIs. Partner with Insurance/Digital Operations and the CFO FP&A team to develop new KPIs as necessary.
Contribute to commentary explaining results for quarter-end closes and full-year forecasts, and monthly management reporting.
Understand the key drivers of staffing levels and provide guidance on staffing level forecasts
Creatively leverage tools such as MicroStrategy and Anaplan to make reporting and forecasting more automated and efficient.
The Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience working in large, sophisticated corporate environment, ideally providing financial support on matters relating to life insurance underwriting and inforce operations
Experience using data to analyze and impactfully communicate results (in writing, orally and visually)
Ability to partner with and influence business leaders and peers using financial information and tools to identify & evaluate options and make decisions
High level of accountability, agility, and business acumen
Must be authorized to work in the United States, without requiring sponsorship, both now and in the future.
