The Manager, Accounting must be able to deliver a timely and accurate month end and year end close and deliver timely financial statements to management, finance, and investors. The accounting manager also needs to have a solid understanding of the accounting system, and be able to guide the accounting team to make meaningful changes to business processes, and controls. 

The Manager, Accounting should have a thorough understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting to deliver audit-ready financial statements. Additionally, the accounting manager needs to have strong communication skills that can be used to explain complex accounting matters to non-accountants.

 

Essential Job Functions*:

 

• Supervise the day-to-day workload of the accounting staff, including responsibility for training, development, quarterly goal setting and review, and annual performance reviews.

• Supervise the close process, and ensure management deadlines are achieved.

• Improve the speed and accuracy of the month end, quarter end and year-end close.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly & annual financial statement and footnotes.

• Coordinate completion of monthly reporting packages for senior management, and board of directors.

• Assist Accounting team with expanding the effectiveness control environment, both in the ERP and throughout the company.

• Lead compilation of auditors’ request lists, and ensure timely delivery.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

 

• Manage a team of 2-4 accountants with various levels of experience. 

• Define individual and team responsibilities and goals. 

• Ensure projects and tasks are prioritized to align with corporate and department goals. 

• Conduct annual evaluations, and bi-annual reviews of established goals. 

• Mentor/Train employees to develop team skills.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Act as key player in accelerating the accounting close and reporting process.

• Assist management on non-routine projects.

• Assist in ERP and other implementations, and act as an accounting subject matter expert.

Preparation, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

 

Required:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

• 6-10 years of accounting experience with progressive responsibilities

• Minimum of one year of experience supervising a team of accounting professionals.

• Strong understanding of GAAP.

• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Position requires minimal travel – 10% or less

 

Pluses:

 

• CPA

• Public accounting experience

• Familiarity with Workday Financials

• Familiarity with E*Trade Equity Edge Online

• Familiarity with Cap Tables, and complex equity structure
