We’re seeking a Domestic Tax Manager who will be excited to help HubSpot grow while effectively executing on the day-to-day responsibilities around U.S. Federal & State tax reporting and compliance, including related international calculations and reporting. This new role will report into the Tax Director and support our small but growing tax function in being a strong business partner across the Company.

In addition to working directly with the Tax Director on domestic tax reporting and compliance matters, the Domestic Tax Manager will work cross-functionally across busines units to consult on tax matters and support strategic initiatives. This role will be an exciting mix of financial statement reporting, managing the domestic income tax compliance and indirect tax compliance processes, assisting with international tax aspects of our U.S. tax reporting (GILTI, BEAT, etc.), and strategic project work. This role will be heavily focused on state & local tax matters in the initial months of the role, with an expected target of 50% U.S. Federal/Global tax responsibilities and 50% State & Local tax responsibilities by the end of the first year. This person will also assist on international tax matters, including international expansion efforts, and generally support the Tax Director on a variety of tax matters as needed.

In this role, you’ll get to work on:

  • Tax Provisions & Financial Statement Reporting

○ Prepare the quarterly and annual income tax provisions of our U.S. Company under U.S. GAAP, including account reconciliations and consolidating with our global subsidiaries

○ Ensure that appropriate internal controls are documented and executed to ensure SOX compliance

○ Monitor new and existing ASC 740-10-25 (FIN 48) issues

  • Tax Compliance

○ Manage the completion of U.S. Federal & State corporate income tax returns and related analysis and support, including monitoring and analyzing tax law changes and documenting impacts to HubSpot

○ Review foreign information returns for filing in the U.S. (Forms 5471, 8858, others)

○ Prepare U.S. Foreign Tax Credit computation; Assist International Tax Manager in maintaining foreign entity E&P and tax credit pools

○ Coordinate and review the Company’s sales & use tax filings, including working with third party vendors when applicable

○ Liaise with IT/Business Enablement on tax technical matters to ensure various billing systems are appropriately applying sales tax as appropriate for the relevant jurisdictions

○ Monitor the U.S. state and local sales tax regulations around SaaS products and ensure that HubSpot maintains compliance in all states/cities

○ Manage U.S. federal and state income and sales tax audits

  • Strategic Initiatives, Tax Projects and More

○ Proactively monitor pending and enacted U.S. Federal and State tax legislation and model the impact of such tax legislation as needed

○ Research U.S. Federal and State corporate income and indirect tax issues. Document options and conclusions, including relevant support.

○ Support the International Tax Manager & Tax Director with tax planning related to international tax opportunities, including analysis of the U.S. corporate tax impact

○ Assist in the design, implementation and ongoing management of international corporate structure and related intercompany transactions, including intercompany agreements, calculation and recording of intercompany entries, and settling payable balances as appropriate, with a focus on the U.S. tax ramifications

○ Manage R&D Tax Credit Study, IRC Section 382 Study, and other tax projects identified throughout the year.

○ Manage the tax professional fees budget and outside tax service providers

We’re looking for people who have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Master’s degree in Taxation and CPA is a plus
  • Progressive experience in public accounting and/or a U.S. multinational company with a focus on federal & state corporate tax matters
  • A strong background in tax accounting and domestic tax compliance; general knowledge of tax regimes in international jurisdictions would also be helpful
  • An ability to research issues, document conclusions, and communicate decisions in a concise manner
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively summarize difficult tax technical concepts in “plain English” in written and verbal form to communicate to non-tax personnel
  • Strong technology and computer skills
  • A willingness to “roll-up sleeves” and execute tasks
  • An ability to work well with others, including as part of cross-functional teams and locations
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct and motivate, with ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • An ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities without sacrificing quality
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
