As the second designer at Appcues, your mission will be to deliver exceptional user experiences that empower our world-class customers, such as The Knot, Lyft, and Twilio, to achieve their goals and accelerate their business growth.  You will own the UX that helps customers analyze and measure their product’s user behavior.  As a senior product designer, you will be responsible for discovery of successful UX design solutions, collaborating with a senior cross-functional product team, and elevating our visual design standards for the entire product.

Appcues is a platform that empowers thousands of SaaS companies to design beautiful in-app experiences that influence their user’s behavior without writing any code. As a user-centric company serving customers with demanding UX standards, we strive to solve real customer problems while balancing business goals.

About the role

    • We are a 100% remote company. We use Figma for wireframes and prototyping, Miro for brainstorming, Slack and Zoom for communication, and our Notion wiki to document our plans and how we work.
    • This position reports to the Product Design Lead, Lisa Zangerl
    • Our four cross-functional, empowered product teams include product management, design, QA, and engineering.
    • As the Senior Designer embedded on our Insights team, you will research, design, and test intuitive user experiences to execute the strategy "Provide our customers deep insights into user behavior & how Appcues experiences influence it." As a second priority, you'll collaborate with Lisa on designs for our other product teams.
    • You will collaborate with product managers and engineers throughout our problem brief, solution discovery, design, and development process to deliver delightful user experiences. On a typical day, you may review problem briefs, conduct customer research, lead brainstorming sessions, craft mocks or prototypes, or synthesize customer feedback in insights from testing.
    • As an advocate for the customer, you will conduct feedback sessions over zoom with customers to uncover pain points, validate ideas, and test solutions.
    • As a critical member of the design team, you will have ownership of our UI design system.  You will enhance our UI patterns to ensure consistency, usability, and efficiency and elevate our product's visual design.
    • You will be responsible for crafting UX copy and collaborating with the marketing team to shape our UX copy voice and tone.
    • Our product process starts with a written problem brief and customer research. After narrowing the problem down it goes into discovery (with the product manager lead, tech lead, and design lead) to find a viable solution that assesses the four main risks. In discovery, we use our design process to research and refine the problem then ideate, design, test to arrive at the final solution.

About You

  •

    • You can work between 9-5 Eastern Time. We are a 100% remote-1st company so you can work from anywhere in North or South America. We are not hiring from Europe, Africa, or Asia-Pacific because we require 8 hours overlap to collaborate effectively with our team members who work those hours.
    • You have 4-8 years of product design or UX experience and at least 2 years of experience designing SaaS solutions.  Experience designing analytics tools or data visualizations is a plus.
    • Your superpowers are visual design and interaction design, and you are also interested in user research. You can translate complex problems into visually stunning user experiences with delightful interactions/animations that include UX/UI  best practices.
    • You have a passion for UI design systems and have actively contributed to them in the past to help improve usability, consistency, and efficiency.
    • You have worked across all phases of the design process, from discovery to execution, in a collaborative, feedback-rich environment. You advocate for the customer and their needs throughout every phase and practice empathy when trying to understand their pain points.
    • You would prefer to share multiple rough concepts than hold back for the perfect solution. You can effectively communicate your design ideas and the “why” behind your design decisions using wireframes, user flows, site maps, and mocks to illustrate ideas/concepts.
    • You have worked collaboratively with cross-functional partners to define solutions that help solve customer problems and business needs.
    • You are excited to share your work, listen, and consider constructive feedback in an iterative design environment. You respectfully and helpfully do the same for your peers.
    • You are practical and outcome-oriented to impact the user experience over both the short and long term.
    • You can effectively write compelling UX copy so users can easily navigate through an application and achieve their goals. You have experience with feature naming, tooltips, error messages, and onboarding.
    • You have the drive to improve anything you touch and enjoy working with others to make things better. You can easily suggest improvements to your past work, and you are always improving.

Our Benefits

100% remote - We don’t have an office which ensures all of our employees learn and collaborate in the same way using remote work practices. This won't change post-COVID as we are committed to being 100% remote for the long-term. We work in Slack, Zoom, and a collection of modern collaboration tools. We have inclusive remote events and, after COVID times, will get together twice a year for a fun off-site retreat.

Well-being - You'll have solid health, dental, and vision plans; access to 401k, and a generous maternity and paternity leave.

Home office and tech budget - We offer a $1000 home office stipend and an additional $500 annual budget for extra work-related technology.

Coworking space, on us - Home office not cutting it? We'll reimburse your monthly coworking fees.

Equity - We want everyone invested in our success. We grant every employee equity in the company.

Transparency and collaboration - We foster team alignment with meetings of all shapes and sizes—a monthly all-hands meeting called FirstThurs, weekly team lunches, and Lunch & Learns.

Unlimited vacation - We believe time away to reflect and explore makes us all more productive, so we expect each employee to take a minimum of ten days of vacation per year.
