Based in New York and Cambridge, DigitalOcean is a dynamic, high-growth technology company that has built a cloud platform to enable developers and their teams around the world to seamlessly deploy, manage, and scale applications of any size. With over one million registered customers and over 150,000 businesses, DigitalOcean has become one of the fastest growing cloud platforms in the industry. Our mission is to simplify cloud computing so developers and their teams can spend more time building software that changes the world.

We want people who are passionate about building a global brand that customers love.

The Brand team is a friendly group of talented designers on a mission to create visual experiences that developers love. The team is responsible for fueling our world-class brand identity with eye-catching, beautiful, original work that consistently delights and inspires the developer audience to grow with DigitalOcean. We are passionate about simplifying complex concepts into elegant, on-brand customer experiences while always looking for creative ways to evolve our brand identity to the next level. The Brand team is responsible for maintaining consistent quality across all design, for both internal and external assets.

The Creative Director must have an understanding of how to set the visual standard and brand for a leading technology company. The role requires the ability to turn creative concepts into elegant, on-brand customer experiences. Reporting to the Head of Brand, the Creative Director is responsible for leading the brand design team to evolve and maintain a strong brand identity, improve cross-functional team processes, and manage timelines. You’ll support the designers on your team to grow professionally and creatively. Together, you’ll take the company’s objectives and translate them into clear creative strategies that amplify our marketing, communications, and product experiences.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Maintain and evolve brand and creative guidelines for efficiency and consistency.
  • Develop alternate strategies and campaigns for building brand awareness, beyond the usual social media and advertising platforms.
  • Develop a series of sub-brands, such as programs, products, and events.
  • Distill complex technologies and solutions into simple and elegant designs.
  • Leverage user testing to drive and inform design decisions.
  • Establish best practice and process for cross-team collaboration, and ensure quality is monitored.
  • Lead and build a team to develop engaging creative content in any medium.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for a diverse group of individuals.
  • Document project successes and create team visibility to the wider business.
  • Build design culture within the company by celebrating the team’s work online, in design-focused events, blog posts, and becoming an industry thought leader.

What We'll Expect From You:

  • Previous management experience, as well as the desire to lead and advocate for others.
  • Experience as a Creative Director working at creative agencies or technology companies.
  • Sense of humor and egoless ownership of projects.
  • Passion for simplicity and design culture.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and creative problem solving.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Expert in B2B design and brand strategy.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Clear, thoughtful communicator who is skilled at building consensus.
  • Ability to articulate and receive written and verbal feedback

Why You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean:

  • We value development. We are a high-performance organization that is always challenging ourselves to continuously grow. That means we maintain a growth mindset in everything we do and invest deeply in employee development. You’ll need to be great to get hired here and we promise you’ll get even better.
  • We care about you. We offer competitive health, dental, and vision benefits for employees and their dependents, a monthly gym reimbursement to support your physical health, and a monthly commute allowance to make your trips to and from work easier.
  • We invest in your future. We offer competitive compensation and a 401k plan with up to a 4% employer match. We also provide all employees with Kindles and reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education.
  • We want you to love where you work. We have great office spaces located in the heart of SoHo NYC and Cambridge, and offer daily catered lunches to keep your hunger at bay. We’re also very remote-friendly—we use Slack to communicate across the company—and all remote employees have the opportunity to take an all-expense-paid trip to our office to get quality in-person time with the team at least once a year. We also allow employees to customize their workstations to meet their needs—whether remote or in office.
  • We value diversity and inclusivity. We are an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
