The Technical Writer is responsible for writing and maintaining several types of user documentation including user guides, release notes, reference manuals, online help text, and instructions. The Technical Writer gathers, develops, and disseminates technical information among customers, engineers, support professionals, and other technical writers on the team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and maintain topic-based and context-sensitive help using the team’s authoring tool while ensuring our established writing style and standards are met.

  • Research and document product information and functionality by attending standups and interviewing Product Managers, User Experience Designers, other Technical Writers, and Subject Matter Experts.

  • Exploit engineering and project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Salesforce, and TestRail to understand issues and develop documentation output.

  • Capture end-user and administrative tasks performed in our products and their expected results.

  • Participate in peer edits and contribute to further developing documentation styles and standards.

  • Develop an understanding of the documentation development life cycle and participate in coordinating milestones as a team.

  • Report project metrics and impediments to the team, Product Owners, and Scrum Master.

  • Produce documentation drafts and support the flow of information among teams during development and testing.

  • Collaborate with teammates and develop knowledge in at least one advanced industry skill.

  • With assistance, act as mentor to Entry Level Technical Writers.

  • Participate in Agile development processes based on product and team needs.

  • Help maintain the team’s outstanding record of on-time documentation delivery.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage deliverables with varying priorities and deadlines within two-week sprints.

  • Use revision and source control effectively within a team setting.

  • Pursue job/career-related experiences and learning outside of the scope of assigned duties.

  • Become a model of collaboration within and across the organization.

  • Share knowledge in areas of expertise.

  • Develop skills in at least one area of PrismHR. 

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with concepts of research-based methods of presenting information.

  • Technically curious and motivated.

  • Ability to prioritize and take direction.

  • A “get the job done” attitude.

  • Flexible and able to accommodate shifting deadlines.

  • On-time, quality delivery in a busy environment.

  • BS/BA in related field such as Computer Science, Communications, English, or Technical Writing.

  • Minimum 2-6 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in SaaS or web-based software environment.

  • Conversant with Madcap® Flare® or other online help authoring tool.

  • Experience with accounting, payroll, or HR software is helpful, but not required.
