As the Community team grows, we are looking for a skilled and thoughtful leader to help us build out new content verticals.

DigitalOcean provides the simplest experience to launch and manage your server infrastructure online. Our Community team educates and engages with millions of developers throughout the world by curating a rich collection of sysadmin and coding focused tutorials and evangelizing emerging open source technologies.

Our current technical writers and technical editors provide instructive guides on managing, installing, and configuring open source software as well as building out practical articles on development.

As the Technical Writing Manager, you will be responsible for leading and building out your team, with an emphasis on user acquisition and increasing mindshare among students and businesses using DO.

 What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Hiring, attracting, retaining and developing team of experienced technical individuals: system administrators, developers, focused on writing
  • Building out new technical content verticals targeting specific persona types
  • Managing a team of technical writers and leading the team’s day to day activities
  • Defining, documenting, and presenting strategy and roadmap for upcoming writing initiatives and sprints
  • Providing regular feedback and guidance from a performance and development perspective
  • Reporting on the team’s performance and output to senior management
  • Managing the budget, processes, and all team related activities for your team

What We’ll Expect From You:

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Experience managing technical individuals in a fast paced, high growth environment
  • Experience with content strategy and strong editorial skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience building developer communities with content
  • Experience using data to inform strategy and decision making
  • Familiarity with Linux, Distributed Systems, and Developer Focused Content
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role (as a content manager, documentation manager, etc)
  • Local to NY or willingness to relocate preferred
