The Opportunity: The VP Product Strategy, athenaCollector will have a unique opportunity to chart AthenaHealth’s market expansion strategy as we reinvent revenue cycle management. Build a team that aligns commercial efforts with product capabilities and direction. Represent athenaHealth in market as a thought leader in the evolution of healthcare revenue cycle.Position Summary:The VP will build and lead the Product Strategy team, owning market research, prioritization and definition of market needs within the athenaCollector Product team. Product Strategy will partner with Product Management and the Head of Product to define a plan that balances maximum market impact with functional and engineering excellence. Where appropriate, the team will identify and pursue partnerships that fill existing gaps and accelerate market competitiveness. The team will also support the company’s growth teams, representing the Product organization with strategic prospects and accounts.
The VP will drive detailed role and processes definition, as well as engagement with stakeholders throughout athenahealth and the industry. S/he will recruit, retain and develop a team of Product Strategists. Finally, the VP will play a prominent public role, representing our product strategy and industry thought leadership.Ideal Candidate:The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in revenue cycle process and operations, who has successfully driven commercial growth strategies. S/he is comfortable throughout the span of product management and product marketing functions. S/he is an exceptional analyst, adept at finding simplicity amidst the noise, and comfortable operating at a wide range of depths, driving multi-year strategic planning, while able to dive into details of workflow where necessary. S/he is a strong organizational leader, with a record of instituting process and building and mentoring great teams.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:40% Define market strategy

  • Develop market segmentation model
  • Research market segments: size and buying habits, distinctive regulatory and process requirements, competitive landscape, industry trends
  • Prioritize markets for attack, balancing size of opportunity, strength of offering, investment required to close gaps, and potential impact on commercial results
  • Define and prioritize product gaps from a market perspective
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define a strategic roadmap that balances respective inputs
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Sales to establish and validate messaging, pricing and related commercial strategies to attack markets

40% Team leadership

  • Defines roles and responsibilities of team, and negotiate boundaries with adjacent functions and stakeholders
  • Defines team process and key artifacts
  • Sets and monitors annual performance goals & objectives, including responsibility for performance appraisals
  • Responsible for development of direct reports, by identifying training needs and providing training and/or development opportunities

20% Represent athenaCollector in market

  • Assist in closing strategic prospects representing future direction of athenaCollector product
  • Participate in relationship governance and escalated issue resolution for strategic accounts
  • Engage industry forums and analysts to represent athenaHealth thought leadership

Education, Experience & Skills Required:

  • Strong preference for candidates with deep operational knowledge of healthcare Revenue Cycle Management across modalities, audible-ready on topics from trends in reimbursement models to applicable technologies to operational best practices
  • Experience in market segmentation and needs analysis, driving quantifiable improvements in commercial outcomes
  • Successful experiences in detailed process transformation, leveraging technology to achieve quantitative and qualitative goals
  • Successful track record of building and leading teams through formative periods, nurturing and growing internal talent
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, simplifying complex topics into clear, actionable guidance
  • Record of influencing senior executives
