Position Summary:The staff writer for athenaInsight.com, the digital magazine sponsored by athenahealth, will play an integral role on the expanding athenahealth Content team, a collaborative group of writers and designers who produce engaging, data-driven, industry-leading content for healthcare providers and leaders. Responsible for researching and writing multiple articles per week on varies trends and data in the healthcare industry.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

65% [Primary Function]

  • Research and write 2-3 short- and long-form articles per week, on average, about trends and data in healthcare to engage and inform healthcare executives and physicians. Articles will be both assigned by athenaInsight editors or pitched by the writer to the editors.

15%

  • Collaborate with athenaInsight editors on the day-to-day tasks -- from proofreading text to tagging in CMS – of the digital publishing process.


10%

  • Support work of editors to collaborate with internal stakeholders across athenahealth to ensure topics and sources align with and deliver on the business goals of the marketing department.

10%

  • Write and support deployment of weekly newsletter for subscribers. Maintain and distribute bi-weekly editorial calendar for internal stakeholders.


Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor degree
  • Exemplary writing and editing skills in both online & offline media (portfolio, please)
  • 2+ years’ experience in journalism, content writing, or publishing
  • Experience working collaboratively within a creative team, and cross-functionally to gather industry knowledge and trends, corporate themes, and data-driven insights
  • Skilled at engagement management and interfacing with c-suite executives and other leaders for interviews and ghostwriting
  • Comfortable with Drupal, Adobe, and other digital publishing platforms and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment
  • Experience in healthcare, technology or other information-intensive industry a plus

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals within and across teams
  • Ability to drive initiatives cross functionally, including the confidence to ask questions as needed
  • Good business insight and understanding of the relationship between information and business
