The Sr Software Engineer will join our Software Enablement and Service Platform team. The successful candidate will be experienced in designing and delivering reliable, scalable microservice and event-driven architectures; leveraging Kubernetes for container orchestration scaling to tens of millions of end users; building cloud & K8s-native patterns and tools to enable rapid feature development in a polyglot environment; and deeply triaging distributed software systems spanning multiple domains.
In this role, you will be working with engineers across Alkami to empower feature engineers to design and ship software fast and with high quality. You will do this by building and supporting a suite of tools, libraries, controllers, and sidecars deployed across our production environment; acting as a subject matter expert of the Kubernetes ecosystem; and supporting complex troubleshooting ranging from OS and language runtime resource contention to suboptimally scaling distributed systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver highly scalable, available, and fault-tolerant production applications based on containerized workloads in Kubernetes.

  • Collaborate with our product and engineering teams to identify areas for improvement and help drive the development of new features and functionality for our microservice architecture, especially focused on intra-service communication, isolation, and shared functionality such as session management, caching, and observability.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, including performance, related to our microservices and Kubernetes systems, including debugging code to identify the root cause of issues.

  • Support best practices with Kubernetes architecture, including optimized workloads, performant namespace and cluster architecture, in-cluster networking, service meshing, ingress and egress, and effective pod and node auto-scaling.

  • Define interoperable solutions and design patterns in a polyglot ecosystem, solving service communication, such as REST and gRPC, as well as their integration with external APIs and extensibility.

  • Leverage cloud native technologies for fault tolerance, scalability, and disaster recovery.

  • Lead code/design reviews to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.

  • Provide mentoring and technical support to junior engineers.

  • Participate in the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding and debugging.

  • Write clean code to develop functional applications.

  • Document technical issues and resolutions in our knowledge base and communicate them to our customers and internal teams.

  • Liaise with developers, designers and system administrators to identify new features.

  • Test-driven development while championing an API-first approach to software projects, ensuring seamless integration, scalability, and extensibility.

  • Set up and maintain environment configurations and monitor system health.

  • Respond promptly to on-call incidents, including troubleshooting and resolving critical disruptions to ensure minimal downtime.
