Job Description

Love technology and problem solving? Have a passion for breaking things and putting them back together? Wayfair Labs helps kick-start the careers of entry level engineers joining our Software Engineering Teams. Wayfair Labs is three-months long and takes place in our Boston headquarters. You’ll get hands-on experience tackling interesting problems and showcasing your skills through projects of your own design. From learning new technologies to practicing real world software architecture and design, you’ll get a chance to master programming concepts and hone your skills and knowledge.

This launching pad will help you expand your skills by engaging with real world programming problems while getting you prepared to join one of our software teams.

Once you’ve been placed you will be working within one of our many engineering teams that include:

  • Storefront Engineering: This is our largest engineering group and it is responsible for the full stack development, frontend engineering, search technologies and mobile development for our customer facing site.
  • B2B Sales Integrations Engineering: This team helps develop and integrate Wayfair’s extranet and B2B sales tools with our suppliers as well as 3rd party shipping partners.
  • Supply Chain Engineering: This group develops and integrates all of Wayfair’s transportation logistics and Warehouse Management systems.
  • Marketing Engineering: This group works closely with our Analytics and Marketing team to develop and manage a collection of processes which drive new and returning customers to our site.
  • Internal Platforms: This encompasses several different engineering groups that are focused on building and improving tools utilized by internal stakeholders. This includes our Financial Engineering, Order/Intranet/Performance Engineering and Infrastructure and Development Tools groups.


Coming into Labs an ideal candidate is:

  • Currently pursuing or have a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.
  • 2+ years of object oriented programming experience using PHP, C++, C# or Java (doesn't need to be professional experience)
  • Great communication skills and ability to communicate development with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills, experience developing creative solutions to complex problems.


Nice to have

  • Experience as a full stack, full lifecycle software engineer
  • Experience with PHP, SQL, JavaScript, HTML
  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
