Sr. Staff Writer, HubSpot Blog

The HubSpot Content Team is growing quickly and redefining what it means to produce and distribute digital content. Millions of people read our content every month, and we’re looking for a Sr. Staff Writer who is able and excited to aggressively grow traffic to the HubSpot Blog. Our ideal candidate is both an incredibly talented writer and possesses deep knowledge of SEO best practices.

The Sr. Staff Writer will be responsible for increasing organic traffic to the HubSpot Blog -- particularly the Marketing Blog -- by creating new blog posts on emerging technology and other gap topics, and also by optimizing (in many cases, rewriting) existing content. This person will work closely with HubSpot’s SEO team on overarching organic strategy, and make scalable playbooks and processes out of insights that can be executed on by them and the rest of the blog team.

The right candidate will care deeply about solving for results with quality content, be driven to achieve ambitious goals, thrive in an environment of constant change, and contribute positively to team culture through being a supportive and empathetic colleague.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write high-quality content on gap topics, including emerging technology subjects, to help capture new organic traffic.
  • Execute on optimization work at scale based on strategic opportunities flagged by the SEO team.
  • Reimagine the historical optimization project for the Marketing Blog with guidance from the SEO team, and manage ongoing execution.
  • Help the blog team stay abreast of new and evolving Google search features (People Also Asked, Quick Answer Box, etc.) by running content optimization experiments in conjunction with the SEO team and creating process around best practices.
  • Use data to assess the results of their work, and proactively suggest pivots if necessary.
  • Foster harmonious working relationships both on and off the blog team.

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • A willingness and ability to “go where the needs are” -- whether that’s writing work, optimization work, or a mixture of both, this person should be obsessed with driving results and flexible in how they get there.
  • 5-7 years experience writing and/or optimizing blog posts or other content for the web.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to quickly get up to speed on and produce knowledgeable content on unfamiliar subject matter.
  • A demonstrated track record of growing organic traffic for a mature and complex content property.
  • Expert Google Analytics and Excel skills, as well the the ability to correctly interpret data and take appropriate action.
  • Familiarity devising and/or executing on a pillar/cluster content strategy strongly preferred.
  • Insanely high attention to detail. Errors, typos, and inconsistencies make your skin crawl.
  • Plays nice with others -- knows how to and understands the importance of working well with multiple stakeholders to achieve mutual goals.
