The Opportunity:
You will fill a critical role on our product management team where you will drive product design and deployment of product services for our clients, and lead other team members in doing the same. You will do so in an exciting environment driven by a desire to enable more efficient and effective care.

Position Summary:

The Sr. Product Manager is responsible for ownership of complex and/or multiple product areas within their overarching Product’s portfolio. This includes understanding the market and customer, contributing to a product vision, developing business cases, ensuring a product or set of product features meets business requirements and driving the creation and delivery of the product. This position will work daily within scrum leaders to ensure effective definition and writing of user stories, prioritizing product backlogs, and making trade off decisions between scope and schedule.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • 60% Product Ownership:
    • Driving Backlog and Analysis of Product Area(s) of Ownership
    • Drive ongoing backlog allocations and prioritization of customer jobs to solve within area of responsibility
    • Ensure effective definition of epics and user stories (both individually or via direct reports), clearly articulating business requirements for the problems we’re trying to solve - including UX/CX/Support requirements
    • Understand the market opportunity via user needs, market forces and applicable business models; with regards to what would best serve our clients today as well as in the future
    • Identify metrics and success criteria that Product Managers and Product team members should be tracking, to help ensure transparency and visibility to program success and opportunities for improvement – Requesting analyses to inform backlogs and product roadmaps
    • Partner with Product Management leaders to be the voice of product decisions within the organization
    • Represent the customer for assigned product area(s), demonstrating responsibility for end-to-end customer journey and touchpoints
    • Assist Product Management Director in ID'ing business opportunities that will drive product success (including pricing and/or build/buy decisions)
  • 40% Product Management Collaboration
    • Serve as Product Owner for 1-2 scrum teams covering our more complex product areas
    • Help to remove obstacles to effective and efficient product delivery from scrum teams
    • Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders across athena in order to streamline process of gathering ideas/inputs that improve product decisions
    • Partner with Product Management leaders to drive portfolio and product strategy
      • Act as accountable party for the portfolio and product strategy of assigned product area, via product roadmaps
      • Provide input to PRSM/portfolio planning process for assigned product area.
      • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure your team develops expertise in market and competition for your services; helping team members to understand what's next and when to stay the course
    • Assist Product Management Director with Product Launch decisions, including the management of all alpha/beta feedback
    • Manage the priorities and expectations of multiple stakeholders (eg. customer, sales, partners) to gain inputs to portfolio
    • Own Service Description for assigned product area(s)
      • Collaborate with Product Marketing on customer communications and messaging framework
      • Engage with Sales, AM, and other internal partner teams as needed to determine best ways to communicate product to customers, and to understand client priorities
    • Contribute to the development of direct reports and overall product management team by lending your knowledge and experience to teach others what you know
      • Learn from others based upon their experience in order to improve product owner capabilities
      • Effectively prioritize work assignments for Product Associates and Sr. Associates as needed; offering timely and actionable feedback on work in order to improve the quality and utility of their analysis and deliverables

Education, Experience, & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Degree (Bachelor’s or Masters) in Computer Science, Business, or Product Design preferred
  • Understanding of healthcare / health IT environment preferred
  • 3-5 years relevant product management experience
  • 5-7 years working with stakeholders in a business environment, working across cross-functional groups
  • Experience working in an Agile environment strongly preferred
  • Technical understanding (mobile, SaaS, data) – ability to gut check technical feasibility and timelines and remove technical development barriers
  • Experience bringing products to market
  • Demonstrated success at driving innovation in a dynamic environment, using analytic and quantitative capabilities to drive product decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in people management preferred

  • Can deal comfortable with enterprise clients and understands how they work and think; can craft approaches that are effective for important external stakeholders.

  • Ability to align execution to organizational vision - Sees ahead clearly, can anticipate future consequences and product trends accurately; has broad knowledge and perspective and is future oriented.
  • Ability to influence horizontally and vertically with peers, stakeholders, and executive decision-makers - both inside and outside of athena
  • Adaptability as both an effective team member and leader - through initiative and flexibility in team goal orientation; and adapting approach and/or goals to quickly-changing changing environment, industry, and business demands
  • Travel required, predicting 15-30% depending on time of year; and will include client site visits, conferences, trade shows, Sales and Marketing events, and trainings
