The Energy Analyst I, with minimal guidance, will support the Energy Procurement and Advising business. EnerNOC offers two discrete procurement services: the energy procurement team helps customers navigate complex, competitive energy supply markets to buy energy at the best available price and secure contracts that match a customer’s risk tolerance. The advisory services go a step further, working with the customer to design a holistic procurement and supply management strategy and actively track and evaluate the performance of that strategy over time.

The Energy Analyst I will support the Energy Procurement Manager and/or Energy Advisor teams as well as numerous teams and stakeholders. This individual will provide analyses that address energy procurement related deliverables and potentially work across all three cost drivers for customers. Types of energy analyzed for customers include electric, natural gas, other fuels, and distributed generation systems. Energy Analysts may also be recruited to provide customer analysis as part of the sales process.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Reporting customer analytics: customer energy budgets, variance to budget, savings from default service, VAR analysis, load profiles, mark to market reporting, tariff analysis, pricing indices, procurement summary analytics and ad hoc requests
  • Maintain the integrity of EnerNOC’s procurement software: organize usage data, support the transaction process, develop pricing indices, produce procurement summary analytics and support customer close out and renewal prep in the EnerNOC Exchange
  • Support the procurement workflow: pre-auction call/energy essentials generation, RFP generation, supplier communications, RFP bid analysis and contract/trigger/renewal deal generation
  • Support delivery of contracted post procurement advisory services/materials: natural gas invoice auditing, budgeting, natural gas nomination and balancing
  • Assist in the bid analysis for customer RFP’s
  • Make strides toward being a regional expert on assigned energy markets and/or be a platform, process and analysis specialist in support of Energy Procurement Managers
  • Create, enhance and maintain deliverable models (Excel and Software based)
  • Ensure completeness of customer deliverables and online auction information
  • Find and vet potential suppliers and administer supplier accounts on the EnerNOC auction platform
  • Write and report energy market content for internal and external market commentary
  • Attend customer meetings with a Energy Procurement Manager or Energy Advisor as needed
  • Presale work as requested
  • Attend skills training to meet skills requirements and maintain certifications
  • Learn other Consulting Delivery products as needed, including software services and energy services
  • Performing other duties as required

Talents:

  • Intellection: introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions
  • Competence: a need for expertise or mastery
  • Problem solving: an ability to think things through with incomplete data
  • Analytical: ability to think about all the factors that might affect a situation

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Excellent computer skills and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong spreadsheet skills, experience with database queries and cost modeling
  • Budgeting, forecasting and price structuring
  • Preferred working knowledge of natural gas markets, interstate pipelines and LDCs
  • Preferred ability to read tariffs and recreate electric and natural gas utility costs
  • 1-5 years of professional experience in a corporate setting preferably in the natural gas or power industry
  • Excellent attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • Specific market knowledge on PJM, NYISO, ISONE, CALISO and/or ERCOT
  • Background in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Energy and derivatives markets
  • Accounting, finance and budgeting experience
  • Previous power or gas price structuring, risk management or analysis experience
