Corporate Development is an exciting, dynamic function at athenahealth focused on key partnership, acquisition, and strategic initiatives across the organization to drive growth. The team plays a core role in executing on athenahealth’s ongoing corporate strategy, identifying and executing on collaborative opportunities with disruptive technologies and business models within the health care industry. These opportunities help drive large strategic initiatives for the firm, including expansion into key growth markets and accelerating critical product or service initiatives. As a Manager within the team, you will be taking point with key cross-functional and leadership stakeholders on growth initiatives. A key focus will be placed on building relationships with new external organizations, their sales and field organizations, and their marketing teams to put in place scalable and impactful inorganic growth strategies.
The Manager position is a role for someone who is highly detail-oriented, is resourceful and proactive, exhibits outstanding judgment and professionalism, and thrives in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. You will also be involved in strategy, market landscape evaluation, company due diligence, and partnership deal execution. The manager will play a lead role generating new relationships with existing and new partners. A strong understanding of athenahealth and building strong, collaborative relationships internally within the organization will be critical to success. We are seeking an individual who has experience in partnership development, corporate or product strategy, management consulting, or a similar field. The right candidate should possess a strong understanding of athenahealth’s core business functions and products, be able to comfortably interact with target companies in our pipeline, and be able to foster and maintain the necessary internal relationships for operational and integration efforts post-transaction.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Generate & manage business relationships with select partners to develop new lead-generation and sales opportunities
  • Define mutual goals and objectives and build awareness and support of the overall partnerships
  • Provide financial analysis, long-range forecasting and thesis associated with potential partnerships
  • Execute final partnerships with internal and external stakeholder buy-in
  • Working with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives around our products & services as well as market expansion
  • Conducting company research and deep-dive research on key focus markets
  • Manage partnerships pipeline
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with potential partners
  • Drive deal execution and coordination between key internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate and collaborate with product, legal, finance and other teams within athena to support the successful completion of transactions

  • Meticulous attention to detail, with ability to build reports and presentations that frame findings and conclusions effectively;
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and prioritization abilities
  • Confidence and sophistication in both verbal and written communications, with ability to express complex issues succinctly and make compelling arguments
  • Ability to work collaboratively, without direct reporting authority, to get results;
  • Independence, resourcefulness, enthusiasm, dedication, and desire to learn;
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High industry acumen, with demonstrated knowledge of the HIT space and other key actors within the industry, and the norms governing those actors interactions with each other
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously transparently, ensuring that all internal and external stakeholders understand the projects’ goals and deliverables

Qualifications:
We are looking for an individual with a high degree of intellectual curiosity; superior organizational, preparation, and analytical skills; and a strong work ethic. Comfort working on multiple initiatives in a highly dynamic environment as well as the ability to remain calm under pressure and/or in ambiguous situations is crucial. The right candidate should possess a strong understanding of athenahealth’s core business functions and products, have experience identifying, structuring, and closing business development or sales partnerships, have excellent communication and project management skills combined with an ability to distill complex challenges into actionable plans. It will also be important that the candidate demonstrates an ability to successfully manage key relationships with CEOs of partner companies, strategic alliances, and potential partners.

Requirements of the successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • BA or BS required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in corporate development, corporate or product strategy, sales strategy, strategic alliances, channel management, management consulting, product management, project management, or another similar field;
  • Minimum 2-3 years past responsibility for managing deal pipeline in a sales, business development, partnership team, or other capacity and proven success at delivering results in a healthcare or similar field;
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and prioritization abilities;
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required;
  • Ability to effectively communicate complicated topics both in writing and in person;
  • Demonstrated industry acumen and passion for making health care work as it should;
  • Knowledge and understanding of athenahealth product suite and business model;
  • Financial modeling and strategic analysis experience a plus;
  • Comfort in a faced-paced, dynamic environment;
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, dedication
