As our team’s Buyer-Expeditor, you will be given the challenge of procuring material for internal and external manufacturing, production support, and engineering development projects that makes production of Markforged’s products possible. You will work with suppliers on critical supply situations to resolve time-sensitive needs for material. You’ll also work closely with our production and manufacturing operations to ensure availability of key production material at the right cost, quality and cost.

In this role you will:

  • Execute direct purchase orders for production needs, including direct materials for internal and external manufacturing
  • Issue purchase orders to category suppliers to support critical business needs
  • Actively expedite suppliers to improve critical delivery needs to support challenging program requirements
  • Support resolution of quality issues, and continuously improve purchased material cost
  • Support production purchasing, including supplier RFP development, quoting and procurement as directed
  • Support qualification and introduction of new suppliers to support programs
  • Conduct competitive supplier bidding to ensure that ongoing purchases are contracted with supply partners offering the best value including delivery support, quality and cost.
  • Support purchases of critical development program material, including quick-term prototype requirements
  • Identify suppliers and expedite materials as necessary to support development program needs
  • Support transmittal of design changes to suppliers for technical drawing revisions
  • Track supplier implementation of these changes in delivered products and materials
  • Support strategic sourcing projects including supplier identification, screening and bid package development, quoting, and cost discussions including compiling drawings and specifications
  • Manage kanban program for production including logistics, internal manufacturing, and facilities
  • Monitor Kanban inventory levels and execute required purchase orders
  • Recommend and initiate process improvements including quality, efficiency, inventory and cost improvements
  • Analyze, recommend, and execute purchase of components with supply risk or on allocation to protect production delivery schedules
  • Execute purchases with a corporate credit card and reconciling monthly expenses incurred
  • Support internal teams to resolve any invoices and payment process discrepancies

What we look for:

  • Prior experience with ERP and manufacturing production scheduling systems
  • Experience and understanding of the fundamentals and challenges of managing material in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to logically address issues, evaluate alternatives and find solutions
  • Organized, and able to multitask / prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with internal requesters and external suppliers in conflict situations
  • Adept at Excel, Google Sheets, and able to learn and use various collaboration apps
  • Positive attitude and high energy level
  • Thrives on working with requesters and functional teams and successfully resolving their purchasing and materials needs and problems.
  • Strong passion, curiosity and insight to continuously improve processes
  • Comfortable with lots of information and data, and able to organize and prioritize it
  • High level of integrity and character
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest and viability to advance to higher level roles within Sourcing and Operations
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience, preferably in business or a technical discipline
  • Ability to respond to unplanned challenges in a calm and professional manner

Bonus Skills (Not Required)

  • Prior Purchasing experience or working with suppliers
  • Understanding of Markforged products, systems and processes
  • Business or technical degree
  • Experience establishing purchasing supply programs
  • Understanding of different material supply models (ROP, Kanban, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of Sourcing metrics and KPIs and how to achieve them
  • Experience establishing purchasing supply programs
  • Knowledge Lean / 6 Sigma improvement methodologies
  • Experience with SQL and data analysis
