The Opportunity

 

 

As a Supplier Diversity Manager you will be responsible for managing all elements of MassMutual's Supplier Diversity Program. This will include designing diverse supplier engagement strategies, identifying qualified diverse suppliers and networks, integrating supplier diversity best practices across the business, leading diverse supplier business programs and engaging in cross-business inclusion initiatives. In addition, you will develop and implement diversity, equality, and inclusion assessment and second tier reporting processes. Having the ability to work across a complex organization with multiple stakeholders is a must and you will report directly to the Head of Supplier Diversity.

 

The Team

 

The supplier diversity team is responsible for working collaboratively across MassMutual to integrate diverse-owned businesses into the company's procurement operation. This team is highly proficient in supplier diversity best practices and interacts with key supplier diversity organizations to develop diverse suppliers. As a member of MassMutual's supplier diversity team, you can expect to work hands-on with business leaders and teams to develop inclusion plans to drive increased spend with diverse suppliers over time.

 

Professionals on this team drive collaborative solutions and results by seeking and valuing diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. They are able to adapt and thrive in complex, uncertain and changing situations, while informing and influencing others clearly, timely and appropriately. This team also constantly scans the internal and external environments for factors, trends and patterns that may affect the organization's business to help build a deep understanding of business to guide decisions and actions that support strategy.

 

The Impact:

 

As a Supplier Diversity Manager, you will serve as a supplier diversity subject matter expert and will be a trusted business partner driving supplier diversity performance across MassMutual. Some of your responsibilities in this role will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Key member of the supplier diversity team, developing advanced supplier diversity capabilities across MassMutual

  • Lead/influence supplier diversity integration in procurement functions including sourcing, category management, supplier management and procurement operations

  • Work with individual business stakeholders to develop and execute supplier diversity spend growth targets and goals

  • Effectively collaborate with procurement (e.g. contracting, spend analytics, SRM) and non-procurement (e.g. risk, accounts payable) teams to develop effective processes and set supplier diversity guidelines

  • Engage in negotiations, and with tactical purchasing teams to increase diverse supplier inclusion and utilization

  • Perform supplier diversity market analysis, benchmarking and insights gathering. Remain current on industry trends, and use this knowledge to advance supplier diversity

  • Champion diverse suppliers to ensure they are exposed to key decision makers in the business

  • Implement diverse business programs to develop a pipeline for procurement opportunities, measure impact

  • Manages supplier diversity external outreach by engaging organizations to advance supplier diversity including (NMSDC, WBENC, NGLCC, Disability:IN)

  • Evaluate the supply base for diversity, equality and inclusion practices and drive continuous improvements

  • Develop and execute a second-tier program to ensure diverse suppliers are utilized throughout procurement opportunities

  • Serve as a key member of cross-functional initiatives and projects

  • Work directly with business stakeholders to establish and align supplier diversity strategy

  • Research, create, and lead strategies to increase diverse supplier utilization

  • Build, monitor, and report on supplier diversity performance

  • Research market trends to identify diverse supplier options

  • Work with Procurement teams to integrate supplier diversity end-to-end to drive diverse supplier spend growth. Assist in evaluating proposals and developing inclusion options

  • Present supplier diversity recommendations to business stakeholders, gain buy-in and push past resistance

  • Build and execute long-term supplier diversity strategies that align with the business's strategic priorities

 

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or related major

  • At least 8 years' experience in supplier diversity, sourcing, 3rd party relationship function, project management, category management or related field

  • Extensive experience in working with diverse supplier networks, negotiating inclusion requirements, managing complex client relationships.

  • Excellent business acumen with demonstrated courage and ability to challenge the status quo

  • Experience with sourcing techniques, tools and processes

  • Experience with business analytics, developing and presenting business cases and recommendations to decision-makers

  • Ability to act as a supplier diversity thought leader and strategic thinker to partner with stakeholders across a range of levels and organizations

  • Experience with transformation/change management, developing and improving capabilities

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, once the company lifts travel restrictions due to the pandemic
