MachineMetrics, a leader in IoT platforms for machines, is seeking a talented Technical Product Manager to join our team!

About us

MachineMetrics was founded by a small group of software and manufacturing professionals unified by a mission to deliver meaningful products that can change the manufacturing world. MachineMetrics has simplified Industrial IoT to digitize the shop floor and enable teams to drive decisions with machine data.

Manufacturing impacts almost every aspect of how we interact with the physical and virtual world today, from the technology we use at work to the way we communicate with each other in our daily lives. Today is the internet moment for manufacturers, and MachineMetrics is a pioneer in empowering a more sustainable, resilient, automated factory of the future.

To accomplish this, we've combined world-class talent in both advanced manufacturing and cutting-edge technology to build a company focused on solving REAL manufacturing problems. As a result, our work environment is busy, non-political, and comfortable. People who do well here can self-manage but readily reach out for guidance and thrive in a creative problem-solving environment. As a result, we are proud to be recognized as one of the top workplaces in the tech industry.

MachineMetrics was named one of Forbe’s top IoT companies to watch in 2019 and voted one of Built In’s 2020 Best Places to Work in Boston!

About the role

As a Technical Product Manager at MachineMetrics, reporting to the Senior Product Manager, you will be responsible for building and improving our edge and data platform products to create meaningful value for customers and all stakeholders within the company. You will actively discover what users need, prioritize what to build next, and rally the team around a product roadmap. In addition, you are responsible for maximizing the product's value by creating and managing the product backlog for two development teams–creating user stories and communicating the voice of the customer in the agile development process.

The products that you will manage have two keystone objectives which you will be responsible for driving forward:

  • Serve the initiates of our out-of-the-box product offerings built to help customers make the data they collect immediately actionable.
  • Cultivate the broader ecosystem that enables third parties to develop new solutions and concepts directly integrated or built on top of our platform.

What you’ll do

  • Turn customer pains and problems into actionable user stories, prioritize the user stories, and arrange user stories in the product backlog
  • Create the data platform and edge products' long-term vision and strategy
  • Align the development team, strategic partners, and internal stakeholders around a cohesive product roadmap and overall strategy
  • Deliver features that function, delight internal and external customers, and achieve organizational objectives
  • Track and monitor development progress and ensure work is aligned with the roadmap
  • Engage frequently with the development team; facilitate discussions, clarify requirements, test new functionality, and contribute to design activities
  • Coordinate regularly with other product managers, business leaders, and stakeholders
  • Champion our core values: data makes us smarter, walk in each other's shoes, never settle, keep it real

What you’ll have

  • 5+ years as a product manager, product owner, or business leader at a technology company
  • Familiarity with our core technologies and concepts: NodeJS, C++, .NET/C#, APIs (GraphQL and RESTful), WebSockets, Microservices and Containerization (Docker and Kubernetes), and data (streaming, storage, and query)
  • Proven track record of delivering results for cross-functional initiatives while managing multiple competing priorities
  • Comfortable working closely with developers to prioritize and deliver technical solutions that drive business and customer success
  • Basic understanding of software design, coding principles, and agile development (Kanban/Scrum)
  • Ability to work independently and stay focused on deliverables that lead to desired outcomes
  • Bias for action and experience making things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Nice to haves

  • Scrum Master background/certification
  • Experience connecting software systems or extending existing tools (e.g., Zapier)
  • Understanding of IoT technologies, specifically Industrial IoT implementations (Industry 4.0)
  • Working knowledge of the discrete manufacturing industry
  • Experience with in-product analytics tools (e.g., Pendo)
